Steering

Hi

In need of advice.
When steering it starts very light when steering and then goes hard to steer, very unearving!
Things always happens when we are about to go away!
any ideas PLEASE.

starting from steering wheel down...

worn/siezed UJs on steering column
worn steering column splines
worn steering box
lack of pressure in steering hydraulics due to; leaks, lack of lube, worn pump, de-laminated pipe work, faulty pump pulley, slipping drive belt.

The bold is what I'd check first with my money being on the latter.

Hi

Thank you very much, really appreciate your reply, I would never have thought of checking the UJ's.
OK, the pump is on its way out, has a nice wine to it but it's staying for the time being.
It was the bottom UJ where it attatches to the box, it turned one way but was solid the other.
