Pond Help?
« on: August 11, 2011, 23:55:01 »
Hi all, is there anyone who has a good knowledge of taking care of a pond?

I have a approximately 2000ltr pond that I would like to stock with some fish, at the moment it is just a pond with dirty water and one plant in it. know idea what it is just looks like reeds. I was talking to a young lady in Pets at Home that said I could clean it out and fill it with water and plants that would by next spring be ready to fill it with fish, she also said that I could get plants that would do the same jobs a filter system too look after the water in the pond.

Is there anyone who has maybe some old pumps and filters that they don't use anymore. maybe if you've got some spare time to come and take a look.
Cheers.

tell me more about your pond do you have any pictures - in my profesional opinion pets at home are talking brown sticky stuff, you could have your pond up and running with some fish in it after a week!

Have a pond with a couple of koi and a couple of small gold fish in. get a filter with a uv in it to stop the green alge. Give the pond a god clean and water change. Take the plants out lillys ok but nothing else if you want koi as they will eat any plant you put in the pond not always good. Make sure the pump you get with the filter is not to powerfull for the filter. Give it a week to settle down then add you fish. Try www.ukcrazykoi.com dont forget to add some aquapour to the water to take out the nasty stuff the waterboard put in it. Then sit back and chill out watching you fish and feeding them.
Oh and if your on a meter dont forget to tell your water company you have a pond and drain the waste water on to your garden they will give you a rebate on your bill as you have to change the water every few weeks (only about 20% of the pond capacitce at a time). Hope that helps a bit.
