Buying Advice - Freelander V6?
« on: October 27, 2011, 10:03:14 »
Guys & Gals,

The good lady & I are considering trading her 4.6 LSE (Out of MOT) for a V6 Freelander. We've had a look about and there are some fairly low mileage low cost examples out there.

We are particularly looking at post 2002 when the trim was refreshed to look better (in our humble opinion!).

However, as dyed in the wool Disco/Rangie fans, we don;t know an awful lot about the Freelander. We'd appreciate any thoughts you guys could give us on the subject.

Obviously being a V6 it's going to be thirstier than a TD4.... but it's still going to be nearly HALF the engine cpaacity of her current run about! We've thought about that bit already... it's things like reliability, what to check and how, comnfort, etc.

Thanks in advance guys.

Frank there are a few things to look for, the normal engine faults, check for signs of overheating and make sure the coolant looks fresh, main issue is the IRD unit and prop, go backwards on full lock, make sure there is no resistance, this shows the IRD unit has sezied, check for a banging noise on take up of drive, worn rear diff mounts are common place, :-) failing that buy a derfender lol

Cheap as chips for a good reason ,motors a tight fit in small space = overheating problems etc etc, probably rates alongside the 2.0l petrol Disco as the worst car L/R have produced in recent years, (just my humble opinion as they say),
