as part of sponsorship thru work, i am in the process of converting a standard V8 to expedition standard for a charity trip into africa.
as it stands, from the wheels up....
AT tyres
30mm spacers for wider track and centre of balance due to roof tent etc
diff guards
sumo steering bars and steering guard
long range 120l fuel tank and tank guard
2" OME HD springs and sport shocks ( a rear air bag exploded on stanage on a shake down drive and we had to drive back with 2 bits of 2x2 between the chassis and axle... that was different!!!)
new standard bump stops
HD front and rear bumpers with winch at the front
rock sliders
interior, back seats removed and a storagedrawer and rack for plastic boxes, fridge, water tank across the rear footwell, jerry cans and a sleeping platform, aux battery with split charge
safety devises roofrack with the top rail cut off with a roof tent on the rear, checkerplate storage box on the front, awning on the side and hilift on the other.
mainly wiring and bits and bobs to do, also a set of poly bushes
the truck has been weighed and comes in at 2950kg at the moment, thats not fully packed and no water or fuel in the jerry cans
my question is what sort of weight would be ideal for an overland expedition or have we exceeded that already bearing in mind gross vehicle weight is 2800kg?
all advice will be greatly recieved and implemented
