Found you a nice house in the countryside, not a 'million miles' from where you are now. I saw it in the 'Yorkshire Post'[/i] yesterday.

Hollin Nook

It's somewhere around here

Go on, dig into your pocket & treat Jayne :D

Well it fits 2 out my 3 house hunting criteria.

a ) Atleast 2 Bedrooms

b ) Off Street Parking for 2 to 3 Cars

c ) Must be less than 100k

Do you think I should ask about the third??

I really envy you guys that are already on the property ladder. I started looking 2 years ago, I wish so much that I'd got something back then. I need to commute to Leeds and York but am fairly easy on area, I'd prefer not to have the cars nicked every week, but other than that I'm only bother about the 3 points I mentioned, I think I'll have to resign myself to just buying Land Rovers instead  :D

It's alright listeing to people say;"Well, we sold our house for £££,£££'s". But you've got to spend far more to go 'upscale'.
I know we certainly did

Presumably, along the A64 corridor? (same as everyone else?)
Sadly the further out you go, the dearer it gets.
One of our Consultants lives in Saxton (situatedroughly within the triangle of Aberford, Sherburn & Tadcaster)
Very picturesque & rather handy for the A1/A64/M1 & M62. I know he paid circa £250,000 over 11years ago!

What about Tadcaster & outlying districts? (Boston Spa is expensive)

I'd love along the A64 corridor, but I recognised a long time ago that was completely unrealistic. Tadcaster is cheaper than Boston Spa, but not to the extent that I can afford anywhere.

My point about being already on the ladder, is that although the high prices do affect, the affect is cushioned by the increased value of your house.

Where as I have to find in one form or another 100% of any house I buy.

My current think is building a house, but it appears I'm too late for that aswell, as plots of land are starting reach silly levels. And ofcourse the whole thing is one big minefield.

I do think the problem is also exagerated by a change in living style, I like a lot of my friends am single. This means we occupy twice as many houses, but we also have half the income to spend on the houses, hence getting a mortgage is nigh on impossible. Actually the banks are prepared to lend me far more than I'm prepared to comit to paying every month, but then maybe I'm too sensible.

I think you've got in a nut-shell there.

I know what you mean about fashionable locations.
I saw one with approximately the same accomodation as ours, but less garden & on-street parking when I was in Oakwood (Roundhay, Leeds) the other week.
That was in the agents window at about £550,000!!!  (well over twice what we paid)

I'll admit I'd prefer to live somewhere like Sherburn in Elmet, Hillam, Aberford than where we do, but as you say the prices

(that's let alone wanting to live up near Hawes, or Richmond)

I wish ours still had its original Victorian gardens :D
It was (& the neighbours, according to the deeds) built by the owners of the local Brickworks as, basically, a Showhouse for his bricks & builders.
The gardens originally ran for over 300yards   down to a farm (as it was at the time)

Oakwood is just down the road from me now, I'm currently back with the parents just up the A58 outside the ring road, while I invest in some more Land Rovers, sorry I mean save a larger deposit :D

Just down the road from us, (corner of A58 and Coal Road), there is the old telephone exchange, which has been bought and converted into some ramshackle stables, for a long time it went unused, and I thought it could be extended into a resonable 2 bedroom house if you could get a little land from the farmer. They sold it Auction and I never heard about it  :x

There are some awesome houses in Shadwell, just up from Roundhay. There is one particular main road which has large mansions both sides of the road, some really nice houses down there.

Terry Yorath's house or atleast it used to be, his son was a couple of years younger than me when I was growing up. Died of a heart attack, that brings things home!!

And ofcourse the local chippy, although the Shadwell one is better and cheaper  :D

Now this is more like it!!

An absolutely beautiful 17th century Jacobean house. Although I like Victorian, & 'Art-Deco' houses, I also have a soft-spot' for this era.

Multi-map

That's a real 'Saturday Night Luck' house.

It's been on the market for quite a while, every so often it's had a full-page spread & write-up in the'Yorkshire Post[/i]
