Oh Poo
Starter motor ( i think ) is playing up. not good when you have an auto...
I can hear it spin up and will continue to spin as long as I hold the key round but doesn't engage..
Thoughts anyone ? is it def new starter motor time ?? or a strip down and clean? weathers bad enough without having to do it twice
Andy
Oh its a 97 Disco 3.9.

Sounds like the engagement solenoid has siezed/packed up. Might be worth giving it a clean and grease as a new one will be

Have just ordered a new one off Rimmers, should be with me tomorrow with any luck.
Will have a look at the old one when it's off see if it's reparable ..

Several things can go wrong, the solenoid won't run at full speed if the pinion isn't fully engaged, but it will spin. Also the pinion has a one-way clutch that can pack up. that assuing the pinion isn't stripped and the ring gear is still intact.
