I own a series 2a swb , a 2 door Range Rover and a 4 Door 3.5 Efi Range Rover  . The Range Rover is by far the most comfortable and probably the most capable but the series goes everywhere and I was wondering what everyone elses thoughts were 8)  :D  :D

I would say :

Off-Road ability and adaptability : Defender 90
Comfort and Cruising : Range Rover
Expedition Base : Defender 110
All-Rounder : Discovery
First Car : Series 3

Of course those are fairly sweeping generalisations, and will doubtless cause some discussion.

I'd say a Defender 110 CSW if you are load-biased, or a Discovery 300Tdi if you are road-biased, are a good start.

Also, I'm going to court controversy and say I've never entirely seen the point of 90s - you still have the bulk and lack of economy of something pretty big, but without the load-carrying / people stuffing capability of a 110.  Plus the handling is bouncy compared to the LWB LRs.  To me it's like having a lorry cab but without a fifth wheel!

Driving around in a solo tractor unit is great fun, plenty of horses and no trailer to worry about!

Hear what you are saying about 90s and partly agree even though I have one,  but offroad for fun they are unbeatable IMV, and I dont think they wrote that in the sales literature!

I agree the space thing is an issue but the 90 as a farm truck is incredibly.

They are 2/3 seaters and thats how they should stay.  Its when you start putting 4 seats in the back it gets a bit silly.

And lets face it, nothing beats a 90 off road

My first car, and the car i learnt to drive in was a 1979 Series 3, used it to drive the 20 miles to work and home again every day. I still have it today, not as original as it was them having recently undergone some changes. In December just gone, just invested in a 1997 Discovery, which is also amazing, but the series takes some beating off road.

Got to be a Defender, as long as it's not a truck cab. Owned 90's for 5 years and recently upgraded to a 110 SW - not quite sure what to do with all the space but am slowly cluttering it up.

I reckon it's the green plastic cup I've got which has a lid and keeps me tea hot while I try and work out how to fix the Landy
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it ain't dirty, do something about it!!

Yeah, I know it's not white and it's not a 90 but my last one was :-)

my vote goes for the golf umbrella - cheap to run, needing only an occasional wash, the keys never go missing and the men from Brussels and the ministry have yet to work out a way to take it off me. Oh and it keeps the rain off a treat too.

I thought about the question for a while and I'd have to say the best 'product' has to be The Cubby Box. It's like a box thing, thats Cubby or should that be Cubey, you put stuff in it and it don't fall out.

i think for overall every day use and offorad ability its gotta be a rangie v8. but for an offorad play toy the defender or series because they jus get places nothing else can(well with the right driver) but sayin that the range rover if it wasnt fot the overhang on the back would do a lot beter, haveing driiven a standard n then a bob'd 1 the diffrence is quite amazing!
go go go the rangie massive!!

Personally i reckon best all rounder, a 110 CSW(ok I'm biased as we've got two), goes anywhere, carries loads, tows anything.

Discoveries are very nice but not enough boot space for my liking as with Range Rovers.

I must be sad though cos although I adore the sound of a V8 I also love the sound of a Tdi!!!!!!!
If I wanted a clever answer, I'd have asked a clever person!
