Do I break or sell as spares or repair????
« on: June 13, 2013, 22:51:28 »
After 7 years of ownership the time has come to admit defeat to the rust .  Not bad seeing as I only saw 4 years of ownership when I bought it.

My 300Tdi manual Soft Dash  will not get through its next MOT without a shed load of money being spent on welding. Sills, inner wings, cross member, boot floor etc, you name it.
Part of me wants to spend the dough and keep on road. In reality I need to cut my loses and move on. Apart from the MOT stuff, the list of need to do/must do is growing on a daily basis.

So, what to do? Break or sell complete as a resto project?  :undecided:

They are becoming rarer by the day especially soft dashes! Fix or sell as a resto - please don't break.

I spent a year of weekends doing ours.  The softies rust worse than any others (BMW ownership you see).

Now I have a really solid truck that will last for years, it's pretty reliable and increasing in value all the time.  Whilst I wouldn't want to do another one I'm glad I did it, money wouldn't buy another one as good.

If I had the space I'd take it off your hands.

There were what? 16,000 odd built in the space of 10 months (may have remembered that wrong) of which about 4,000 were long wheelbase V8s.

They are rare as hen's teeth round here, certainly in good nick.  Given how many were exported and how many have been broken, there really can't be many left.

It's been a tough decision but cash flow has played a major part in my decision making. Would love to take off road and slowly sort everything out but I need transport for work and for trips back to Pembs every month.
Thankfully I have found someone who is taking the old girl in one piece, no breaking.
He has the time and space to sort everything.
Next chapter of Land Rover ownership is a Verydisco Td5.
If, and this is a big if, my Euromillions ticket proves to be a winner, then I'll buy my Soft Dash back

Thanks for the responses.

Good decision, breaking a car for cash takes a while to break even on I've found and it's a bummer when it's a car you liked.
