We had a stock disco 2 on the farm for a while and it wasn't very good. It was ok for motorways and that but lacked the low down grunt for slow heavy work.  We could have had it remapped to be better but we hocked it in for the 300tdi 90. I know the gearing is different but the 90 whilst having less torque overall has it in a better place for work.  Guess it's down to what you want to do with it.

Lambert Coverdale.

As slow as possible, as fast as necessary.

Two and a half litres of turbocharged diesel goodness.

I had both in Discos and overall I'd say 300 TDi.
No engine electrics to worry too much about, easy to mod without a computer, steering lock is far better (if you're also going to be using the body) and the interior is basically the same.

No rust at the minute but it's about to hit a UK winter which will be a shock to its system.

Make sure as part if the overhaul you check its rustproofing as many imports do not have the same level of protection given to a UK vehicle.

Thanks for the sound advice people , the 300 has been mapped for extra 20ish bhp have free flow exhaust just a little cherry bomb before side exit also has a K and N filter, a gallon of waxoyl in the box sections and underside also inside doors etc still got loads of cutting and grinding to do before fitting some big arch extensions that came off of a Jeep wrangler.
