Is this the cat?
« on: November 04, 2014, 16:35:07 »
Hi all, recently got back into land rovers and have brought a 1999 Discovery 2. I think it has a cat, its like a circular wire that is on the downpipe and would like to know if I remove it will it still pass the MOT? Thank you, Ben

The mesh wire can is a flexible joint to remove NVH.  The particle filter (not a cat) is a tin can slightly further back, IIRC.  Yours is a TD5 though so worth checking a manual.

If it doesn't smoke excessively it should be fine, but if it's just the flexi then leave it in.

1999 Td5 Discoveries weren't fitted with a cat - didn't need one to pass EU2 emissions regs.
