do I remove the plastic bits inside the uj cup before fitting or leave them in many thanks

Erm, I don't remember plastic bits. If the inside is still recognisable I'd have thought you'd replace new for old, so the kit would have all the parts that wear out.
Is the plastic bit there to hold the rollers?
