overheating TDI, or not?
« on: May 07, 2005, 22:47:57 »
Hi, My Defender 90 300tdi Temp gauge is going straight into the red when i start to go uphill, the engine doesn't appear that hot and neither does the radiator.  I have replaced the rad and thermostat and its no better, it was fine until last week, the thermostat didn't appear to be open even though the needle was in the red.  I'm scuppered, is there a common fault i'm not aware of?  The snorkel can't cause this can it, its the only thing ive changed? To say i'm annoyed is an understatement

Check the temperature sender on the engine. It may be playing up.

Thats my next job, i'm not hopefull though, i would expect a inaccuarate reading permanently rather than just when the engine is under load

Few months ago I had a similar thing the temp gauge would shoot up to hot, this was due to air lock in the system!

Place termost into kettle to see if it opens up if not replace if ok, Get the truck presure  check to see if you have a block somewhere they do it all by fuild check now, if it turns yellow or red you have a block or head going. But be ther ewith them a wd40 will lay for them if they place one squrid into the test with out you knowing about it.

Put old stat in with new rad and now its fine, the new stat must be faulty, I was getting worried.

Slightly over on the height, only by 3 pixels

You can have 160x120 pixels, try using the image resizer, I suppose on the proportion of the width to height really to what the resizer can do

Srs 3 Lightweight petrol (got to go)
Srs 3 Lightweight petrol, runabout

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40
