N/S Rear Quarter light for Disco
« on: May 08, 2005, 13:55:57 »
HI All,
Some scroat has smashed my N/S rear Quarter light in the door. Small window.

Anyone got a spare one?
It's a Discovery 1993 200tdi.

I'd got the motor stripped down to do the transfer box bearing and the console was in the back seat with the radio in it. They got away with the radio.

Annoying or what. They'll get a fiver for it although it's worth a lot more and I get a nicked radio.
Smashed window and damaged drive gates as they made their exit.

Just had to spend two hours sorting out the damage to the gates. They are 6 foot high, wood and about 12 foot across. They left them swinging and they got damaged by the winds.

As you'd expect I'm fuming. I suppose I was lucky they only did a small window and they didn't nick any of my tools that were all over the front of the car. Nor another radio (that normaly isn't left in) that cost me £1300 nor the GPS stuff.

It does show that security lighting doesn't really stop them. They'd have been lit up like Blackpool illuminations by 3 seperate PIR lights.

I managed to get hold of the glass this morning. Thanks to Kev Hobbit for the lead.

It's a PITA to do though.
Plenty of WD40 and or fairy liquid on the rubbers. After working out which bits hold it all in place and how to get around certain bits snagging.

It's either the dog or 3000v DC about an amp would do.
It's the volts that jolts but the mils that kills :)

Just an idea...

How about fitting a couple of magnetic switches on your gates wired to a buzzer in the house.

I am looking at that Paul. I just need to make sure they don't give false alarms.

Apparently there are some things that are like land mines and cover the perp in dye or anything else obnoxious you choose to put in them.

I don't think I'll go to that length though. Not yet!

It was about 15 years ago that we had our last episode so we've not done too bad.
