Exhaust problem.

Have traced a leak to the joint between manifold and down pipe/catalyst, he said that trying to seprate them can split the pipe. meaning he'll have to weld a repair onto the pipe, he said he's  done this plenty of times before.

Should I keep my catalyst or dump them for a S/Steel sports exhaust,

How much difference will there be to the emissions when it comes to MOT time.

The thing is not sure about the mot on this i think its changed as if the car is a cernet age you will have to have t a cat fitted. ask a mot place b4 you do this. i would get shot of it if i could.

Well, I'm not the worlds biggest fan of catalytic converters, however in answer to the question of how much difference they make, well, they make a noticable amount of difference to the correct thing.

The correct thing in this question being the sensor they stick up it's bottom during the MOT, I'm unconvinced of the long term environmental benefits of a catalytic converter, but AFAIK they can tell if it's missing :(

well, from what I've read they simply turn one form of really cruddy particulate into another, not to mention the fact that the "nasties" blatently aren't going anywhere...

we live in a closed environment, so it'll probably just end up on a rubbish tip rather than on the streets of london..

maybe I'm just a tad nieve :(

I've had my 1998 TDi Disco de-catted for about 2 years now.  August will see it's 3rd MOT since having it removed, never any problems in terms of emissions etc.

I fail to see how a cat can actually work on a diesel anyway.  :?:

I had a cat on my Renault lagoona diesel I ask the nice man when I had it mot ed if it was ok and he said he didn’t know because they don’t check them on a diesel so I asked if I removed it would there be a problem and he said no?  so off it came and the following year it passed even though you could see the by pass pipe I had made. This was a 96 car.
