Are Tdi trasnfer boxes the same as V8???

Sorry posted this in Disco section but it applies here too and seeing as Im chaging it this weekend, thought I'd try and give it as much chance!!

Just bought a 300tdi auto box with a manual diff lock.

I was running a V8 auto with a viscous lock.

Can the trasnfer boxes on these ZFs be changed??

Basically are the TDi ones any different ratio to the petrol trasnfer boxes. I know the gear boxes are but dont know about the transfer boxes?

The viscous Borg-Warner boxes are the same (better be as my spare one came from a slaughtermatic too) on a 4-speed auto, with 3rd being direct and 4th being overdrive.  On a 3-speed auto they aren't but that would be a lt230 anyway.  There arew 3 types of Borg-Warner though, check out Ashcroft Transmission website.http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.html

They are both the 4 speed ZF.

Looked on ashcofts and they only talk about the V8 models.  Cant seem to find any info on the diesel ZFs abd their Borg transfer boxes.

So basically you think it should be fine to change the ZF diesels transfer box with the ZX petrols as they are both the same?

Haynes manual only lists one ratio too.  It's slightly higher than the LT230 but by that time the V8 was 3.9L.
I don't think it matters where it came from, nobody ever told me different.

There are just the three normal ratios on the LT230 :

1.2:1 - Range Rover / Discovery
1.4:1 - LR 90
1.6:1 - LR 110

As you say, there are differences in the gearboxes depending on a few things.

Pretty sure the B/W transfer box is around the 1.2 mark as well, so I can't see any big issues.
