What a surprise hearing about this on the radio  :shock:

I know the Rye can come up a few feet, but it literally engulfed everything.
Through sheer luck no-one was lost in the deluge, although plenty of farmers lost livestock.
A tragedy could have taken place, as a motorcycle rally (of over 10,000) was taking place at Duncombe Park (a large country house & grounds), luckily the majority of participants had already left.
Other surrounding villages were hit as well, Hawnby (up RyeDale) is still cut off from vehicular traffic.

We were on our way back from LQ to home (Malton) when the storm started.  It was freaky how quickly the weather turned.  One minute we were sweating in the heat, the next it got so dark that headlights were needed and we were treated to a superb aerial light show.  Then the rain started.

We managed to get home before the worst of it, but driving conditions were still terrible, and we saw a five car shunt.  It wasn't just a little shunt, I reckon all five cars were write offs.

I saw it on a report on the news last night! flippin eck!! done a fair bit of damage, thats the thing with nature, it send so little warning but does so much damage!

I was in northumberland on an RTV trial and was sweltering all day I never saw a drop of rain untill came down the A1 towards newcastle and roads where wet but in some places water was pooring out of the verges.

Did any one see the elderly couple being pulled from there micra in newcastle?
found out later in the local; news that some little b******s went back later and cleaned out the car. They even took the guys disabbled badge.

Havn't been up that way for a while, if the ground is as dry as by me then the water will have come down sutton bank like a avalanche.  I live on top of a hill thank god!

Yes I saw another report about Sutton Bank, I lived in Thirsk for a few years, and you can get some mean and sharp stuff roll of the top there weather wise.

That was a real freak  downpour though, my daughter lives in Bradford and it passed over her place, she wondered what the hell was happening

wouldnt bother with the kick.
just put them in a car weld up doors etc and drive them into a river

Think we saw the same shunt.... it was northbound on the A1? A little further south there was another crash with a Mondeo or similar with its back over the central barrier.

We were coming back from Scotland and as you say, it was hot and sunny one minute and then the heavens opened. The lightning was almost constant at one point.... amazing to watch but not too much fun to be out in.

I see from the 'bonnet' that it's presumably from my way as well.

As we've put the 'BWSOW' on a site on the outskirts of 'Royston Vasey by-the-Sea', I've looked at it everytimeI've gone past, but on one (solo) return trip stopped to look at it through the window.

There's also a ex-Civil Defence (if I'm correct) Gipsy at the side of a garage/tyre repairs near Sherburn(?) cross-roads (the one with the traffic-lights & the Church covered in scaffolding.

I just thought it was spookey that I saw something, thought of you, and you posted an image of it.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the Gipsy.

No worries, well I think it's Sherburn anyway.

The garage is a rather old-fashioned one that had large wooden doors, with a glazed upper portion (possibly painted blue)
