Guys,

Due to this run of great weather, I managed to jetwash the chassis and dry it out for waxoyl'ing which I did yesterday. Now on the can it's say's not to spray the exhaust pipes or silencers, which is easier said than done!!

Anyway my question is, does it really matter if there is some waxoyl on the exhaust system? Or will I have to get underneath and start scraping once it's set?

It should just melt or burn off. If it is only a few small splashes I wouldn't be too worried. You could try some white spirit or thinners on a rag to get it off.

I should have a look at your MG, I bet there is some on the exhaust - this assumes they still put it on in the same haphazard manner as the did in the eighties, when I had my MG saloons.

Chris,

I think the underbody treatment is put on way before the cars reach the exhaust fitting stations, and they have this really smart machine that runs on an air cushion that simply lifts the exhaust up into place, no muscles required!!

I noticed all this on a FREE trip to the factory, Land Rover take note, you tight gits!

Progress is been made then in the uk car industry, I had 4 new MG saloon, and all of the had this orange colour underseal all over the exhaust, wheel backs, engine part, gearboxes, if only they had aimed better on the bodywork. I might still have one of them

 - but then again perhaps not - no street cred in a Maestro

I had an MG Montego Turbo once, nice car, blinkin fast, fastest production saloon until Ford brought the Sierra Codswallop out!! No good for trying to steer on a wet road though!! Remember hitting a severe hump back bridge at 85mph once, managed to launch, came crashing back down, tough suspension on them Montego's, made out of angle iron.

But this is THE MG to be in nowadays..............

The non turbo 2.0 didn't steer too well either. Basically they were a load of c***.

I had a MG Montego - New
a MG Maestro - New
a MG Metro Turbo, also new and a pile of sh*t, it has a new set of valve guides, then a new head, then a new engine. a new gearbox - twice, new carpets, new windscreen  and various other minor bits.
a MG Metro - one of the first, also new and the best.
and 2 more 2nd hand MG Metros for Lynn.

The I got a life and brought a new Citreon BX diesel.  :lol:

Nowt wrong with BX's!! I had a 16 valve and a turbo diesel, also a petrol Xantia and a turbo diesel one, then I saw the light and switched to Land Rover, been broke ever since.................................

Mine was blue, I smashed it up and had it reshelled, there should be a picture of it in the next issue of a certain car club magazine before it got shortened into a metro-montego :lol:
