Gearbox/clutch Problem
« on: June 30, 2005, 17:41:54 »
I have just changed the oil in the gearbox/transfer box, now with the new oil 2nd & 3rd are an absolute pig to select when moving it is also a pig to get out of these gears, to change from 1st to 2nd I have to nearly stop to get out of first even then you have to force it in to second. It has developed a whining noise Whining you pick up a bit of speed in 1st 2nd & 3rd.
There is no grinding when you put it in gear but there is a click from the gear box when you change up, as if a tooth is clashing slightly before it goes in.
4th & 5th are absolutely fine no noise and select perfectly.

It hasn’t been abused and there was hardly any bits stuck to the magnetic drain plug. The clutch fluid is fine and there is no sign of slipping even under heavy load.
I it is the LT77 box which was recon'd about 9 months ago.
I have put fresh EP90 in it, is this the correct oil or could it be causing the problem?

Cheers
Matt

You might want to use the first refill as a flush then after a swill round, re-fill again

'91 stretch Discovery 200 Tdi
Hybrid for running round (got to go now)
Srs 3 Lightweight petrol (got to go)
Srs 3 Lightweight petrol, runabout

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40
