Found this from national archives. Worth a look

found a few men with my surname but ones more promising then most as from Devon like me

Found an ancestor of mine on there, he was Captain of HMS Neptune!!  :D

I know this cos a relation traced the family tree back to him about 30 years ago.  :wink:

my sister did our family and found the painter Turner wayyyyy way back.
Doesnt mean I can paint though unfortunatly

Funny that, cos instead of trying to sink ships for a living I'm a Coastguard and some of our customers are Spanish and French fishermen who work out in the Atlantic!!  :D
