does any one know where the speedo picks its signal up from on the disco 2 as the hole for the old type speedo drive on the transfer box is blanked off and the only wires I can see are for the electric activator for the difflock and the reverse lights and the difflock warning light switch could it be getting the signal from near the wheels?

The feed for a Discovery 300 is from the alternator...

That's for the rev counter ;-)

cheers gord's I know the alternator supplies the signal for the rev counter but it would give a false signal for true speed, the drive needs to be somewhere near the output area of the gearbox or at the wheels me- thinks

Cheers Tim Oh great oracle please please rub the chrystal ball and let me know where it is   or at least give me some  lol

Oops  I knew I'd fixed something recently
There's a speed sensor on the transfer box behind the transmission brake.

looked there it is blanked off on the disco 2.............nice try................ its sending me bald slowly lol

On the auto version, there is a speed transducer in the back of the box... In the governer housing I think.
I'll have to try and look up the manual box....

hmm... thinking about it.. that one might not be for the speedo sense.. that is most likely for the gearbox control.
I believe the ECU controls the speedo on the D2, so most likely it just uses the data from the wheel sensors.

I thought that may be the case Tim it looks like I will need to sort it out from a different direction thanks for your help ........pete

Rockcrawlin,
Is your speedo not working, or are you trying to retro fit another, or have you some 'cunning plan' for something exciting, if your speedo works then maybe another way could be found.
If your speedo is playing up, then I'm afraid I haven't a clue. (Sorry)
Tim.

the speedo pick up on the td5 disco is taken off the ABS sensor I know ive fitted a transferbox to a difender for some on and it took me ages to find out how to make the speedo work I hope this helps

When the R380 was introduced on the RRC it was a plastic plug transducer on the back of the gearbox assy but it sounds like you've eliminated that already. Just to chear you up my mate's new TVR only reads 20mph, at any speed. Finally found the transducer, on top of the rear diff!

Just spotted on another forum that the wire from the speed sensor on TD5's is pink.
I know that isn't a lot of help, but how many pink wires can there be?
Tim.
