Title: Top Gear cool wall
Post by: defuzz on July 10, 2005, 21:00:36
Just noticed, Defender and Disco 3 are in the "Super Cool" section of the wall.

Unfortunately the "range rover sport" was uncool, mainly because the hamster met one of the plonkers from "celebrity whore island" and he wanted one.......

Well I'd have to agree, I like most things with an oval badge, and the Def. is certainly super cool, but the RR sport? Just don't get it, would rather spend my money on a wildcat....

Range Rover Sport????

No thanks,

I agree with The Great Sir Jeremy Clarkson, "if you are going to spend all that money, get a proper one"... I think you get what he mean't.

Tim. (With a bank balance to buy neither!   )

Maybe it's because I am a girl   :P but I don't like the new Disco, feel it looks a bit too much like a van from behind (admittedly this is the first LR I have disliked) and think it should be 'Uncool' and I do like the RR Sport.

Then again, I am not technically minded and go firstly on looks (typical of a girl I suppose   ) I do love Top Gear though but haven't really yet understood what the cool wall is all about.

My husband has a 'Cool Wall' in the office    Guess is a man thing. Now a cool tyre wall, that would be one to get me going  8) (How sad am I :?: )

I think it looks wrong with the spare wheel underneath, which must also have some effect on ground clearance and departure angle.

I wouldn't be suprised if someone makes a kit soon to mount it on the back, and I'd like to see how that makes it look....

Tim.

P.S. If any manufacturers out there would like to pick up on this idea, I really wouldn't mind if you wanted to pay me a royalty for every one you sell!

Now be honest Tim, do you really think this will affect *any* RR Sport buyer??

Personally, I think the Disco 3 looks like it's hewn from solid..... like it's looks a lot. And the dash is excellent. All pretty irrelevant given that my bank manager isn't quite that generous!

The 'Cool Wall' is a barometer of mainly what Clarkson & 'Hamster' think (or how high 'Hamster' can't reach to remove photos  )

For example; Audi TT. Uncool, as it simply tries too hard to look cool. Think of everyone you've seen.
It's generally  either an estate agent (male) or a f**tballers wife/'lady who lunches' type.
Expensive hairdo, the 'right sunglasses' as worn by whichever f**tballer (wife) is in the fashion magazine.

Do you get my drift???

Defender, RR & DB9 are there as they don't have to try to be cool, they are simply iconic.

Sorry, should have said that I mean't about the Discovery 3, the Range Rover looks great, but my bank manager is just like yours so I'm getting neither

I was driving home behind a Disco3 yesterday and was looking at the spare wheel underneath and the holder and wondering how much it would be in the way when doing some serious offroading, when I noticed what I thought to be rear wishbone suspension. Does the D3 have a rear axle or am I right?
One thing I liked was the two plumes of smoke coming off both rear corners as the driver gave it some wellie (V6 twin tailpipes). I think he was p..off that I could hold on to him with ease
The rear door would look better with the glass crossing in a straight line rather than have a step in it.

yes, think it's got independant suspension not beam axles, if i'm not mistaken though it can imitate beam axles with the terrain response gizmo.

We'll find out next year when the G4 Challenge starts again.

Looking under any of the Discovery 3's my friends have, you would definately think there was a problem with the spare wheel, but LRO did a feature this month where they drove a old series 3 up to Scotland and round the Discovery 3 'launch' test track, which looked quite severe in places.

Unfortunately none of my friends venture there Discovery 3's off road, they are 'Chelsea Tractors' which you can see you face in the paintwork.

Didn't they state that the spare & cradle were removed? (or did in one of the magazines??)

If they did I missed it (or can't remember   ), but it would make sense.

I hope they do. Defiantly from behind the 3 looks hideous. Mrs C C said that even if we could afford one she would not want one parked outside because it’s too ugly and for ones I agree with her.

I'd have one if they were giving them away (my bank manager says I can't have one unless they do!).

If I had one I would be tempted to reverse it up to my garage door to hide the rear.

I have friends with them, and they are very nice inside, very comfortable and quiet. There is one driving round locally that is black and has blacked out windows, this from the back doesn't look too wrong.
