Well, I finally got round to doing some sort of test, to check that the new 235/85 tyres are OK. As I'm sure most of you know :wink: I have done a 1" lift - rather than the 'standard' 2" lift. I have also trimmed the rear arches.
I ran it up onto ramps (front & rear, opposite sides) and it looks fine - ish :wink:
The front bumper has taken a bash at some stage and the nearside corner is further back than it should be. hence, the end cap gets jolly close to the tyre. I plan to trim the corner off the end caps!
At the rear, the front of the arch appears to be safe and the rear also looks clear thanks to the "remodelling" :wink: it looks most likely that the tyre may hit the mud flap bracket/inner arch - we'll have to see on that one.
I haven't extended the bump stops yet - I need to replace the missing rear ones and then find some terrain that will max out the suspension travel. What do people reckon - will I need extended bump stops?
Fingers crossed, I'll make it to Billing on Saturday and there will still be off-road places left [-o<

Actually, I should send these photos to AJS Tyres ... "you'll need at least a 2" lift to fit those tyres on a Discovery!" :wink:

Gords, nice look but i dont want to be a killjoy....take off the front valance or your tyres WILL. Thats if they dont grab it pull it in and break something. I have 31inch on a 2 inch lift and they play merry hell with everything when it gets really bumpy. If you arent planning on anything too extreme you will still need to remove more...sorry
Extended bump stops are a good investment..have a look at chugga's post he made some and welded them in.

Err, I don't have the front valance on any more :? Are you talking about the bumper end caps?

Have you got anti-roll bars? I have and I suspect that will save me from that particular issue :-k
It was parked right on the edge of the drive, before it slopes down to the road and (for some reason?!) we were standing on the road. Pauline turned and looked at it and said "that's a very big car!" in a "what will the neigbours think" kind of way :wink:

ive just ordered some extended bump stops from paddocks,
i'll give you all a verdict when i get them

I can vouch for them, fitted a full set about two months ago, nice and neat, bit loud with the orange but if they keep the tyres off the inner arches then I'm happy!! :D

tyres touching inner arches aint a problem on mine, i'm fitting them to stop the shocks bottoming out and damaging the valving :oops:

Well, after a laning trip this weekend, I can confirm that the rear tyres do indeed reach the mud flap/inner arch :roll:
Should I fit extended bump stops to stop this from happening, or is it nothing to worry about? I could do with finding a tall pile of mud to properly test it :-k

I'd extend the bump stops, even if only by an inch.

I'm a bit new to this forum but this article took my attention..
I have a Scorpion 2" lift kit springs and shocks all round and lower turrets at the front.
Why would you need extended bump stops ???
I have one missing on the rear.. and despite some serious articulation have noticed nothing up.
I use 7.50 R16 tyres, but plan on trying some 235/85/16
