1.Drive belt
2.Rocker cover seal, I take it the tappets will be checked.
3.O-ring that seals the oil vapor collector thingy on the rocker cover (you know the round black thing on the drivers side with 2 pipes coming from it   )
4.Something to give the intercooler a wash out, if your going that far.

That's about all I can thing of just now if you've got the filters etc covered.
Is it just the engine your doing or the axles & gear/transfer boxes as well?

P gasket on the back of the water pump for the metal version - see if you have the tell-tale sign of water running down the side of the block from behind the water pump.

Replaced mine a month or so ago (it was leaking) to find that the paper one had already been replaced for a metal one

cheers guys, though i did see somewhere that the push rods and rockers are a weak point, any ideas

gonna fit a new full width intercooler at some point anyway 8)

what about the mod on the fuel pump, to give the timming belt better grip, how can i check if its been done or not?

The only problem I remember with the rockers is the cap on top of the valves, they occasionally cracked or came off the valve, opening up the gap and making the thing "Tap" like crazy.

The only way, short of taking the timing cover off, of checking if the kit has been fitted is to look for a splodge of yellow paint that "should" have been put on the casing near where the air-con pump goes. But not all had this done.
You can check the condition of the belt by getting a torch and looking up through the hole in the bottom of the casing.

The push rods are deliberately "weak" on the Tdi...  if the timing belt fails, the pushrods tend to fail before the engine destroys itself completely.
