Im thinking of removing my old original Discovery Radio/tape and replacing with a nice CD Radio. Is there anything i should know or do all standard radios fit the hole in the dash!
Ive heard a roumer that only shorter radios fit due to the depth of the dash board - is this true, and if so how much room is there to play with.
-
I think the 'short' radio problem only relates to the 200's which mount the radio down near the transfer lever, I have a 300 which mounts it in the dash like a 'normal' car, I have an aftermarket kenwood fitted in mine (it was it when I got it so I've no idea how complicated it was to get in).
I've seen on eblag convertors to change discovery stereo leads into the ISO standard that most people use, but I'd have a look in there first before shelling out any ££ (they were quite cheap though).
Good luck,
Tim.

I think you are right Tim i put a sony mini disc player in my 200 it was very tight for the cables but it did go in.

My Discovery 300 (M) has a new/recent Blaupunkt radio/cd/mp3 (http://www.incarelectrics.co.uk/product.asp?numRecordPosition=4&P_ID=128&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=781) and it fits no problem. It (the Discovery) even has the latest DIN plugs/sockets so it connects straight into the standard wiring loom.
It can be a bit of a fiddle to get all the wires in though - but a lot of cars are like that

hi joe i have just had a cd/radio pioneer fitted to my 200tdi disco just a bit tight with the original connecting blocks but is in good and tight now the radio is of normal standard size of the shelf regards colin

Shouldn't be a problem on a 300.
On a 200 It can be easier if you loosen the console as you fit the radio to allow you to take the connector blocks away to one side of the radio leaving as much room as possible under the bottom/end of the radio.

Ive just fitted a sony cd/mp3 head unit, the ISO fittings were all the same, the only thing ive had to sacrifice is the volume and tune buttons on the dash, fitted great first time tho no problem - sounds great too!

As ed said with the 200 its gets a bit tight, but also can get a bit hot too, I have a mp3 player unit in and every time I change the cd, they are well warm, have to drill some vent holes through the console, on either side of radio, and fit a 12v computer extractor fan to ventilate it.
-
was that in the 200 or 300 series hobbit? Mindue i had a new Fiesta Zetec last February which had a CD Player, the disks got really really hot in that head unit too.
-
Kev's is a 200 same as mine.
I've also considered some cooling method as the MP3 player does get quite warm. There's not much ventilation in the area of the console.

I found it more than tight fitting a head unit into the RRC but I have a cunning plan to stop it getting hot, I stuffed a 4-channel bridgeable amp under the dash to drive the speakers :D
