During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or launching any e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in any way, regardless of who sent it. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL OPEN IT RIGHT AWAY, THINKING ITS A STORY RELATI! NG TO 9/ 11!
BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor" It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive.. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat, a friend sent it to me, but called and warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and now he can't even start his computer!
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all. So, if you receive an email called "WTC Survivor", do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files)! from your computer.

As is the case with so many of these things... generally speaking, the message is the virus or it is just a chain letter.
Best thing you can do is get some decent virus protection and keep it up to date... don't open any attachments or click on any links in emails where you are not absolutely certain of the source and ignore the endless spam you get.

I had a similar one made it through at the back end of last week, but not for the WTC, this one was claiming to be footage of the London Bombings.
Saw straight through it though and deleted it.

generally speaking, you won't get an email notification of a new virus, nore would it be worded in such a fashion, since, let's face it, who's going to be sending unsolicted email to you just "FYI" if you follow my meaning. Virus checking companies aren't going to get much out of it, and your friends and family are unlikely to write emails in the style of language used. (nor are professional companies either, just to stress the point)
Generally speaking the message *is* the payload of the virus itself, and is further spread by people attempting to be helpfull. Sad state of affairs, however, as tim said, there's no harm in trying to be helpfull.

I agree, I get a lot of emails warning me of a potential virus 'doing the rounds', these I often feel are induced by somebody somewhere who just wants to get the whole email system into a backlog with everyone forwarding it to 'all' there contacts.
Usually if you receive a virus email, like the ones above, it is relatively obvious so I ignore them (or delete them rather), and I only then need worry if a friend has become infected and is passing stuff on without realising.
Then I just have to hope my virus protection actully works [-o<
