Title: Rest in peace dear friend
Post by: beast5680 on July 19, 2005, 20:01:29
Today was a sad day    I lost a good and trusted friend today! we had only known each other for just under a year but i felt very close and thought of him as part of the family, a trusted aide who would always be willing to help.
It was a shock to say the least as his demise was sudden and without warning and i was unable to save him as he died in my hands :(bigcry):

Hey ho thats what you get when you buy cheap angle grinders so twas off down to the power tool shop for a shiny new one :D  after much thinking and looking at all the new shiny grinders on offer decided to try a ryobi one with a 920w motor. so now have a nice new best friend

Regard angle grinders as disposable items. IMHO not a lot of difference between cheapos & pricey ones for DIY longevity. I just regard it as another expense when estimating the price of a job or task.

I must admit, I used to think that until I got my DeWalt grinders... been going strong forever and they get loads of use.

Up to then, I'd tried B&D, El-Cheapo, Bosch (wasn't too bad) and they all fell over eventually.

If you speak to Tim, he'll tell you all about a smoke recharge kit you can get so it'll work again!!  :(biglaugh):

I have only ever used one grinder, I don't do much grinding so I haven't 'killed' it yet.

I've heard that there is not much to choose between different grinders (so I bought a cheap one) - on the basis that its 'just' an electric motor, and it is the discs that make all the difference.

As I don't do much grinding (though I have a Land Rover so I'm sure I will be soon!), I'm still using the 'free' ones that came with it - does anybody agree that 'better' discs either last longer or cut better?

I bought a B&Q cheepie angle grinder about three years ago and gave it great abuse on my Series III, but it is still going strong.

My half decent drill that I bought last year on the other hand has just given up the ghost... or rather I wish it would!

It has decided it doesn't want to stop when you release the switch and slowly rotates the whole time :x
