Hi All, My battery warning light stays on, but only when i turn the engine off. I can get out of the car and lock it, and it still stays on. Only started this morning. Any help would be great. Cheers Wayne. :D :D :D

Diode pack in the alternator? Usually that's what causes that.

It is still charging, and it goes out when the engine is running. What should i do about it, or is there a way of testing it? :D
-
Ok, have checked charge, and its not good. The light doesnt come on with the ignition, and when i removed it, after my wife got home, about an hour and a half later it was red hot to the touch. HELP. Bearings ar ok.

Like Wanderer says, it's the diode pack, a classic fault on alternators. Take it to an auto-electrician and it should cost about £20 for the parts plus some labour.

The light being on means that the diode is allowing DC to travel back from the battery via the alternator. It'll flatten the battery after a while.
