Hello Guys
I have a bit of a problem as to where to put my front number plate? Now that i have the Winch/ winch bumper and my "A" Frame covering all that area! So now i am looking at the idea of the old type stick on number plate on the Bonnet just like the ones they used to use on Mini's But are they still Legal? and if so where can i get one?
Its just dawned on me thet Tim at Muddyweb might be able to make one! so the question still is "Are they Still Legal ?"

Technically speaking they aren't.
Number plates have to comply with all sorts of daft regulations these days in order to reduce crime. (As we all know.. criminals only ever get their number plates from reputable sources)
We can supply number plate sized stickers... in reflective material, with the number plate font, at the right size.... but it isn't a number plate... ;-)
Front number plate positioning is quite flexible.. so you could put a plate higher up if you have some space.

pic of number plate sized stickers as supplied by Muddyweb
The number plate on the bumper has since fallen off (it was only held on by duct tape anyway). Not been stopped yet even though I had to trim it a bit
(Pic courtesy of Hightower I think)

I had one on the bonnet of my disco (above the Land Rover badge) and never had any trouble from the boys (and girls) in blue (well, black now)
Go for it!
:D

i had a "scooby" style front plate on my car & was told to change it or else whilst they were writing out my GV09 i think its called for my tinted windows

I have a stick on front on my Range Rover for the same reason winch bumper. It has passed the MOT ok and I have never been stoped. As for being legal, I got mine made from the right, stuff all the letters the correct size and spaces with reflective backing. I hat to take the log book and another form of ID. It was made be a car accesorie shop.

I am facing the same problem!!!
Tim how much can you supply the whit sticker and a few numbers and letters for m8
Are you going to Malvern for the landy show??
-
I'll PM you.
No, we're not going to Malvern... bank holiday weekend on the M5 ? No thanks :-)

Mrs Hightower took it actually
-
Nuff said Tim!! i'm only going for the day on Friday and hopefully steer clear of the M5!! :)

Had sticker number plate on the front of the lightweight for over a year, 2 mot's and a multi agency check later no probs people were happy with it
One idea might be though is a plate holder like the ones for the rear of trailers, and pop the plate on when necessary or if somebody says something, store the plate in the motor

Before you stick "sticky made up plates" on,
Check D.V.L.A "Display of Registration Marks for Motor Vehicles" V796.
or check"The Road Vehicles(Display of Registration Marks) Regs 2001.
Hope this helps

I decided that i am going to make up a couple of swinging brackets and mount it under the "A" frame! So whilst out Laning and it touches anything it will hopefully fold up flat against the splash guard! or get knocked off!!  :D
-
It should be ok as long as it is readable from the front, the ones on the bonnet are questionable but thats what i'm gono do if i can ever afford / insure a winch.

If anybody wants a 'white (with black letters) stick on sign' that 'might' resemble a number plate I can get them too :D
