Title: Changing transfer boxes
Post by: landyman Ash on August 15, 2005, 12:24:57
I want to change the transfer box on a RR ZF auto.

Obviously it unbolts and then breaks apart BUT when you bolt them back is there a gasket or seal that needs replacing??

I'd change the gearbox output seal if you're in there... it's only a couple of quid.

If you are putting a new transfer box in, you ought to change the gearbox output shaft too.. they are about 25 quid

Both good points, thanks!

I have two ZF autos, one V8 one diesel, and the V8 has a viscous so I want to swop it over.

Both have done around 80,000 (give or take 2K) so should be an easy swop right??

I believe they are interchangeable, ours had a LT230 and is now a B-W, fitted by a previous owner.
