Baz,
Sorry to hear that, in the TOR I have it does say unlimited. Try Norwich union, may not be cheap though. You may find the companies that offer unlimited european cover may not be overly competitive on the specialist vehicles but NU are worth a try.

Norwich Union took over the Forces insurance service through the NAAFI, they did mine for years after I left, until I got the disco, then they took the michael, It would have been cheaper to insure a Challanger tank!
Those policys came with unlimited european cover

Also Norwich Union are now dealing with call centres abroad so you never know when you bank details will be sold to a tabloid newspaper. :?
Unfortunately unlimited european cover seems to be reducing in availabillity but I would have thought as we move forward it should be more common pace.
Baz, you do get the minimum legal cover in EU countries as standard on most if not all policies (I think it is on all but just check). The problem then would be your own vehicle is not covered, but you would be legal to drive. Also most insurers would require that your permanent home be in the UK and your visits abroad be only temporary in nature.
Depending on the value of your vehicle and the costs of quotes with unlimited EU cover, it may be worth considering.
