Title: Inner Sills
Post by: Merlin on August 18, 2005, 08:53:19
Hi, I've got some rot on part of my inner sills, I know you can buy new ones from the usual sources but can you still buy "OVER SILLS" that we used to use in the trade in the 60/70's?  They were much easier to use & for the lengty of time I will be keeping this RRC they would be ideal.
Also can you still buy "REPAIR KITS", Craddocks used to sell them in the early 90's but they are not listed on their web site anymore.--Cheers--Tony

DOn't bother trying to bodge it, it's not worth the effort and could bite you in the a**e if someone who knows what they're doing wants to buy the car.  Have a look on Paddocks web site 'cos they have pictures of the repair panels to give you some idea of what they look like.

The inner sill is a flat reinforced plate complete with the chassis mounts, you cut out theold one and weld the new one in to line up these mountings.

The over plates are probably the outer sills which wrap around the inner, I'm thinking of using these because the rot is not near the A or B posts so I don't want to disturb them by fitting a full sill, but I will be cutting all the rot out first.

I used the Paddockks repair panels on my RR classic, BRILLIANT and cheap!!

It was a job I was dreading and the panels made it very easy.  Sold the RR now but Im sure its going strong.

YIPEE!!!, just bought a pair of brand new outer sills for my motor off "E" bay for £37 incl. postage.  Just went onto the site & there they were with 2 hours to go.
Got my side steps & plastic valances off so will wait till these come & see what they fit like.  May cut them down as the outer seems fairly good.
Where can you buy the plastic fasteners that hold the valances on from?  Need a couple of dozen as the little pegs are now inside the sills.
Great fun this, makes a change from mechanicle work.--Cogs

Landyman, to fit the inners do you just have to take the two chassis mount bolts at each end of the sill out?__cogs

Just finished the job today, new outer sill repair panels fitted + some general patching here & there.  Not a hard job but lots of welding.
"Shutz" gun out tomorrow to finish the job off.
