So far seen Dj casper & N Trance play live & im goin to see Ian VanDahl next month so got that to look forward to,
Both of the above were great cos they had the club jumping for the whole set (jake knows what i mean)

( Scoose the english as there is a large amount of alcohol still in my system from last night/this morning )

The best gig I have been to was a bike rally and the featured band had the unlikely name of "Shamus o'Blivion and the Megadeath Morrismen"

They played everything from heavy rock to old time english folk and carried it off.

It was a real foot stomping dancing sing along. Best party night ever.

Based in Notts so any members round there that see an ad for em playing ...go and see it, you wont regret it.

Really really good!!
Better live than the albums!
They even burst into QOTSA track No One Knows for a while and Run DMC's Walk This Way.
Super'b!

Floyd were brilliant too. I saw them twice. Very impressed.

Best band?
Haven't seen that many, so far I've only seen
Spear Of Destiny (previously 'Theatre Of Hate')
The Meteors
King Kurt
Sisters Of Mercy
Restless (several times, possibly with the best British guitar player I've ever heard)
Stray Cats (say what you like, Brian Setzer is an awesome guitarist, & plays a beautiful Gretsche)
Steve Earle & The Dukes (on stage for about 4hours, superb!)
REM (worst venue; Milton Keynes Bowl)

Tindersticks (very hard music to describe, someone once suggested; Scott Walker on Valium?!)

Dixie Chicks (last one I saw, they're cool!! & gorgeous)

Much to my diappointment I've never been able to get Springsteen tickets   (or Dave Edmunds)

Seen Slayer and Metalica live. Saw Metallica on Master of puppets first and they werent that good live...seen then a couple of times since where they were awesome.
Seen Slayer a twice first on the Hell awaits tour with nuclear assualt in support. Slayer are truly devastating live. They are note perfect musically and so fast.
My favourite gig was Megadeth at Nottingham rock city. Great night. Me and a mate had gone on our bikes and nearly froze to death on the way home. Pulled in at services and put hands under the drier in the toilets with my gloves on, couldnt move em.
Worst gig , Napalm death... didnt sound anything like the album stuff.
Best Dj - Carl Cox

Pink Floyd - Earls Court - 1994 I think it was.  Great.  Now if only they'd release the freaking DVD.

Funnily enough, Bush Tucker Man, Dixie Chicks were the *worst* gig I've been to.  Shepherd's Bush Empire, one of the hottest days of the year, no air conditioning, they were an hour late starting, and didn't even apologise!  Left well before the end before I died of heat exhaustion.

I did see James Blunt about 4 months ago, just before he made the big time - about 500 people in a venue in King's Cross, on his birthday, last day of his UK tour.  Great gig.

U2,at wembley, after gig everybody still singing outside, on the buses and down the tube, its a sight to see and hear 300-400 people waiting for the tube, and they are all still singing.

What about ones you had the chance to go to, but for some silly reason didnt.
1. The first live aid, because offered double time to do a big installation.

2. Queen, about 6 months or so after live aid, at there best, the worst part about this, a freind of mine went, and if you watch the Queen live magic tour video, you can see him in the front row.

Such is life, its easy to look back and say "why didnt i do that when i had the chance"

The Best DJ ......................

"John Peel"

ever................

PERIOD !

Died last year from a heart attack at the young age of 65

I miss that man and his Broadcast's so much.

There will never be another like him !

Absolutely Unique and Totally Irreplaceable !

The biggest Loss to modern music, the BBC Radio and British Culture in the Last 50 years.

An Absolute Gentleman & an ICON

His Legacy & Memory will live forever in my mind & many others beside.

If ever there was a man that represented the spirit of Glastonbury, John Peel was begrudgingly it. He craved no lime-light, he craved only new, original and sometimes extremely alternative & diverse music.........his passion in life......his obsession.

A wonderful & down to earth family man.

I have never been so moved by the death of an individual of whom I never actually got to meet. With such warmth and genuine passion for the music  he Championed, you felt as though you were listening to an old friend and a pioneer, both at the same time.  :)

He  was one of the most important influences in Modern Popular & Alternative Music, right  from the 60's right the way through to 2005.

Sadly missed...........

Never Forgotten  !

my little Tribute to a Great & Humble Man   8)

Highest recommendations wether you already know their music or not->

1. Less than Jake (Amazing Dancing FLorida Ska Punk) Every time I've seen them they made several thousand people dance like nutters (including me)
2. MUSE (Most Formidable)
3. Audioslave (quality Rock and Roll!)
4. The living End (Australias answer to Green Day but better)
5. Metallica
The Hives are also flawlessly entertaining if you can get them.

In the Uk scene watch out for:

Reuben
Dragonforce :) (16/4 time Hair Metal)
Adequate 7
Bullet For My Valantine

I have a Gig reviews website here http://www.gigup.co.uk (although I havent written for ages) & Rookie Error is my band but we are [!Expletive Deleted!] so don't come and see us ;)

RIP John Peel - the man did more for modern music than we will ever realise

PERIOD !

I miss him too, even though I didn't agree with his tastes over the past (perhaps 15years)
As you stated, it ws his passion for the music that made him the Icon he surely is.

I take it his favourite ever track still that was at time of his death, well it was played at the funeral, he always said it was 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones.
Made me smile to hear that belting out of the Church.

His championing of lesser known bands made him great.

I remember him playing a track by a band called 'The Men They Couldn't Hang', it was a solumn covering of an Eric Bogle song.
'The Green Fields Of France' (http://ericbogle.net/lyrics/lyricspdf/nomansland.pdf)
And he commented at the end that;
"It's The Barely Suppresed Anger In That Cover That Makes It So Damn Good"

It's still in my personal top 20 by 'TMTCH' for that reason, although it's a well known song.

I remember first hearing 'Into TheValley' (The Skids) on Peelie as well.

My own top DJ's must be
Johnnie Walker ('drive-time', 17:00-19:00, Radio 2)
Nick Barraclough
Bob Harris
Mark Radcliffe (but!, in his early days, ie; the 'Out On Blue 6' show & the 22:00 slot on Radio 1 with Mark 'The Boy Lard' Riley)

Wolfman Jack!! (as best heard on in 'American Graffiti' )

Ops, sorry, a slight hi-jacking there

John Peel
Not often you shead a tear for a strangers passing.
I never listened to his show but watched all his Glastonbury coverage.
I loved his passion for new and diverse music.
And man, could he moan (see a re-run of grumpy old men on BBC2)
but that was half his charm.
The day after he died on Radio 1 was hard listening. All they played was bands he'd found and the music he loved mixed with loads of clips of bands talking about him.
Very sad

The Jam - wearing my trusty parker !
Tina Turner - Goldeneye tour - definately the best. - a true show
Barclay James Harvest
Steve Hillage - got thrown over the seats by a bouncer in the rush to the front. disapointing concert all synth and tape bakup
Meatloaf
The Vapours - booed them off stage when they supported the Jam, shortly after had a number one hit - turning japanese.
I can't remember the rest.

We miss John Peel, used to play him every night to the boys when they were babies, it was the only way Cam would sleep for years.

Best Gig - has to be the Chameleons, HWMBO introduced me to them when I was 17 and they'd recently split up .

They reformed and we got to see them twice Late 2001 (IIRC)
BRILLIANT!!!! small venue Flower Pot In Derby, Vic In Nottingham

The one at the Flower Pot Has to be the best Gig ever! Old Favourites, New tracks fantastic atamosphere (everyone phoning up Babysitters  ) Seeing your fav' band for 15 years, 6 feet in front of you pure magic!

 Worst,
well I fell asleep at a Loop Gig once   , Wedding Present at Cov Poly was forgetable - it just did'nt work

Ride was scary,  good music but far too many people packed in, most of them nutters in the mosh pit, people got hurt. Not fun.

Keep saying one year I'll get to Glastonbury, HWMBO went loads in his youth. We want to take the boys.
