Title: Something Different For A Special Occasion?
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on August 22, 2005, 15:26:30
I've just found this mentioned in the September issue of 'Classic American' (the edition with the 'General' on the cover)

I like the idea of watching a bride arrive & having to get out through the window aperture of a General replica

The 68 GT390 ('Bullitt') sounds fun ,as does the 79 Trans-Am (Smokey & The Bandit)
But a sheer joy would be the (yellow) '32 deuce from 'American Grafitti' (& it's for sale!  How much!! )

And to prove some people have no taste!? (http://www.starcarhire.co.uk/The%20General%20Cortina%20Lee.htm)

It's for sale, only £25,000.
I know two people that used to have them, one yellow, one matt black(with flames). The black one was a v8 of some description and the boy used it for drag racing, he used to drive it round town with his number still chalked on the door, the yellow one ( a mate of mines) was a ford v6, enough power to lift a front corner away from the lights!! Great fun! Did 150mph stood in the pub car park. Turned a few heads too. Had a fancy logo on the back saying pipe dreams, he got rid of that and bought some big yank tank, Camero? not sure. Painted that bright yellow also and called that pipe dreams 2. Jeez, that's some time since!!

Years ago (& I mean years ago!) there used to be a company up at Birds Edge (up to the Sovereign crossroads & turn left) that used to manufacter/build/sell Model A kits.
I remember seeing them at Doncaster Custom show, it must have been about 1980?
