Right, my father is putting AT's on his Disco. He is gono maybe do a bit of Greenlaning. I've suggested maybe go for BFG A/T's but at £87.50 they aint cheap. Any recomendations would be gratefully accepted :)
-
What about Colways??
People who use um seem to like um.
-
BFG's are a bit more on price but well worth the monies, I've had a set of BFG AT's for the past 3 years and they still look like new, lots of tread still on them. (and there for sell in the For Sale section)
BFG's for me.
-
He won't have remoulds, I suggested that to him (also heard they get noisy quite early in life, don't know how true that is)

With MT's yes not with AT's

Colways are a good buy IMHO good budget tyre if your not doing excessive mileage, got them on my 300 as it doesnt do loads of milage and they,re cheap compared with the BFG ones, they are supposed to wear quicker but i,ve not noticed and should you slash one on a lane its not another £90 you have to shell out
-
I'd go with the BFG's or maybe a set or Goodyear Wrangler AT's
Pricey, but worth every penny.
:D
-
I've had the (235/70) Colway A/T's on my Disco for over 25,000miles & they're a lot less than half-worn.
No complaints about handling, noise or traction. (Q rated as well; 100mph)
Punctured one on the sidewall & only £42.00 fitted & balanced.
I'd have them again without any doubt
-
i put colway a/t's on the old disco
no problems at all done 30.000miles worry free
put 6 inch nail in side of one two day's after getting them
but only 35.00 fitted
no worries
-
i use bfgoodrich allterrains on both the 90 defender and the disco at that price is very good for one they normally retail out at 90-100 each and ive seen them sell for 120at some places i would not compromise saftey with quality these tyres are allways first choice for me great offroading and excerlent road handling just make sure you run correct preasures on my disco i put 30psi up front and anyware between 32-34 at back depending on load carried and 30 psi all round on the defender never had any problems with either vehicles for long term millage these outperform most road going tyres and just from experience you can get to places that some guys cant reach using m/t if you know how to drive offroad properly that is also find that the bfg have a larger footprint than most i run 235/70/16 on disco and are superb grip and cornering .
go for bfg money well spent you wont be dissapointed regards colin
-
If money is no problem BFG at-s every time , if as you say they are a bit pricey then itsCOLWAY at s exellent tyre good wear rate quiet and cheap
-
Can't rate BFG's enough
but have never heard/seen anything against Colways either
Maybe a middle ground is General Grabber AT's??
Used them and would recommend them as well

Had Grabbers on my Jeep, you can't buy em anymore (Shame, good tyre for little money), the AT2 replaced it and they are as dear as BFG.
-
Thats that option out the window then..
-
I have BFG's on the Shogun and they work great. they were on when I bought the car.
I have Colways on the Disco, cant really see any difference to the BFG's except the cost to replace them.
-
I have some old BFG trac edge on my 90 and I love em. Did have some colways on at one point but I didnt like them for some reason, couldnt put my finger on why though.
I found these on paddocks recently and they look to be the same tread pattern as the old trac edge and only £38. Called Dakars. Might get some over the winter to replace my ailing BFGs

That is a copy of a Mud Terrain. The Trac Edge had a different tread patern to that.
-
oooopppss your correct of course
/me puts dunces cap on and goes and sits in the corner
the alternative course of action would be to edit my other post in such a manner as to make muddyweb look silly
-
I've got a set of Trac Edges on my 110 and I've got no complaints.
Seem to last forever, not too loud on the road and get me most places off-road.
I'm thinking about getting a set of silly tyres for when I go playing though. (any advice will be greatly recieved). :D
-
Slicks would be silly!
Silverstone do some good Simex copies, or Grizzly Claws.
-
what about kohuo there nice and the price is about £65
-
I mostly use BFG A/T. I get about 30,000 miles out of them ( I tend to change them a bit early in case I get caught out at work ).
Good in snow, mostly quiet and carry weight well.
-
Ta for your advice. He's gone for Colway.

How are they? My Frontera only has some road tyres and I want to get some AT's.
Don't want to spend a huge amount at the moment so Colway's could do nicely if they are ok.

They took a lot of weight to balance but are now stable upto 80mph (and beyond probably), they look to be the same pattern as my Uncles BFG's so should be ok offroad.
-
Cool, ta for the info.
Have to find someone who fits them nearby.
-
I went for the Bronco Grip Edges. £196 for all four corners (the spare on Karens 110 is a never used Trac Edge of the same size, guess where that is going when she isnt looking)
-
I have ordered the Coloway AT's in 255/75R15. The MT's look great for off road but I hear MT's are pretty poor on the road.
Cannot wait to get them on.

I've heard that too, in fact frightening in the wet is the way it was described to me.

i have had goodyear ATs on my disco for around 3 yrs and 40k and they havve only just started to show wear. You get what you pay for, i suggest a hunt on the net there are alot of good deals out there.

Hopefully I won't have my Frontera that long, if I get a decent 4x4 it will get BFGoodrich (unless I really like the Colway's).
-
I'd go with the BFG, I use remoulds as a second set but for a one and only option I'd have BFG. They are nice sturdy tyres which helps the roadholding and handling, tyre life and fuel economy.
With remoulds you have no idea what the underlying tyre is so you can end up with 4 miss-matched tyres.
-
Got my Colway AT's today (pic below).
Hopefully get them fitted before the weekend.
-
All i can say is i had colway A/T's for about 10 months and had to replace because the side walls had cracked up. I have had BFG mud's for 17 months and coverd 10,761 miles they still look like new.
You pay's your money you take your chance
Don't get me wrong the colway is a very good tyre, its just the BFG is better.
