Ok, got through some stuff I ordered from Devon 4x4 (great service and quick delivery) but I cannot work out how to lower my hi-lift jack.
Help!!!!

Have a look here....

Make sure you know how to use your highlift correctly - as they can be very dangerous :!: :!: :!:

Ta, I have had a read but have no idea how to move the reversing latch into the down position.
-
just push down.... quite firmly
Will need weight on the jack for it 'to walk down' when you pump the handle.

I'd be inclined to find someone local to you to give you a demonstration. They really are lethal if you get it wrong.
They are fine if you know what you are doing.
New ones can be a bit stiff at first.

I would second that, after doing a recovery course, scary stuff.

Well my step dad almost lost a few toes, to I third that.
Sorted it though, was just a really stiff latch. Got it all worked out and heeding the warnings. If I do not post on here for a day or two, revenge my death.
Got the hi lift recovery pack too and some robe, just need to get some more shackles as did not order any, just got the one that comes with the recovery pack.
Any ideas where to get a bridle of 12T robe?

And even when you have had one for years you can get it wrong!!!
I have a HUGGGGEEEEEEEE bruise on my arm to prove. Never get complacent. Great bits of kit but a bit hairy at times!!

That had occured to me, where you gono fasten the shackles also?

Going get the wheel lift accessory for the hi lift. For the shackles there are two points on the bottom at the front. Going to use them, I have seen pics of another frontera with recovery equiptment attached there.
Paul, ta, Ill drop him a line.

Not wrong there. A mate of mine lost his rear screen last week. Just changing a tyre on his drive!!!!!!!!

Just to add a comment or two..
Yes, HiLifts can be very dangerous. They shouldn't in my view be used as a jack at all. If you have a wheel to change, unless circumstances really prevent it, use a decent bottle or trolley jack.
HiLifts have their place as a recovery aid or as a lifting device when "high lift" is the only option... as a normal jack... forget it... spend a tenner in Halfords and save yourself a lot of grief.
-
I have to agree, the extent of use will be as a mechanical winch or to lift a wheel enought to get a waffle under it, at home I would use the trolley every time.

We used a Jack-all brand jack to lift the back of our sheep truck when we got it stuck in Iceland, and the very strong ladder part of the jack bent alarmingly. In the end we used an exhaust-powered bag jack thingy (and melted it, but not before we un-stuck the sheep truck.)
Having used farm jacks for changing tyres and also recovery, I agree with the opinion that they should be used very circumspectly as a recovery device, but not as a jack unless there are no other options, it's just too easy for the vehicle to fall off, with potentially dangerous consequences.
