Title: Help any ideas ?
Post by: Reaper on August 27, 2005, 16:21:58
I was going to the LRO show today but last night I thought I'd just check on a bit of a rattle that had started under the bonnet  :?

this is what I found      It would seem someone before me had tried to fix it with silly putty

It now looks like I need a new timing cover & housing and a PAS/alternator carrier

anyone got any good ideas or better still the above bits  :)

The only way to give you peice of mind is new parts.  Unless you know someone who can TIG ali, and even then you can't guarantee it will fit after welding.

I do ally tig at work. The problem youve got is that it will be too contaminated by now. All that oil and dirt on it will never come out enough to get a good weld.

You have two/three options.

1: You could try to weld, but i dont think it will hold for long.

2: Replace with a new timing cover.

3: Make a steel bracket, that bolts onto the original cover bolts, and others in the vacinity.

It just so happens that I can TIG Ally but as Sharpshooter says I think Its going to be quite contaminated.

The parts new are:
Timing housing £440
Timing cover £209
Alt/PAS Bracket £84
another engine would be about the same money ?  :?

I think I'll strip it down and have a go with the TIG  :)

Is Grind of the two surfaces and re-bond with some of that fancy liquid metal Then Drill And put a Strong self tapping bolt In!  to secure?
                                                                              Hopefully??
