Went to the slroc trial & night safari yesterday & last night & on the way there had to stop & remove the front prop as it came off due to the diff flange coming off,got to the event & was fitting it whilst it was getting scrutineered, wasnt trying particularly hard all day mainly saving the motor for the night safari & up till the last section i was winning, then made a simple mistake & ended up joint 2nd,anyhow went n got re scrutineered for the night safari & went n did my first lap absolutly flying 60/65 flat in 3rd down the back straight on my new 205 diamonds (great tyres) & then came back into the pits to have a quick look over before i went out to do my 2nd day lap, only to discover that i had broken the n/s/f double shock mount off, wiped out the shocker as it had bent double & hadnt even noticed,so took it off & went n got some welding gear & welded it back together so i coul;d do the night laps,
by now the presure was on as i had to do 9 in the dark instead of 8 as i carried the extra day lap over, did the first load of laps ok & just before i was gonna do my last lap there was a large amopunt of banging goin on so stoped to find i had pulled the osf shocker through its mounting washers so it was just flapping about, drove slowly back to the pits & fixed it asap & pulled up to the line with 15 secs to go before the coarse was about to close at midnight, went n did the last lap at 90% pace so to finish & discovered i had finished 5th even with all my problems, just need to re shock the whole motor now as they are gubbed,
will add some pics when i get them

Sounds like you had a great day, if a little busy
Congrats on finishing at all, let alone so high up order =D>
Regards,

Well done Mikee
Sounds like a busy weekend.
:D

the prob i now have is deciding on what shocks to fit & how to fit them as its now aparent that the current set up is just not strong enough,so do i go for double pro comps all round or single pro comps & single bilsteins,
OR if any 1 wishes to supply sugestions on the back of crisp £20 notes i could use fox's

=D> =D> WELL DONE
-
Indeed well done. It was a nice fast coarse with some interesting little obstacles in it to catch you out. I quite enjoyed my driveround, but I don't think James in the back sitting on the spare wheel enjoyed it so much :)
I thought when the first car out fell on it's side at the first corner we were going to be in for a long night of recoveries but it seemed to come together quite well. It was very boring marshalling out on junction 10 though, everyone passed going a bit too slow thanks to the all the ruts just before it lol! Even worse, at some point I lost the nice comfy seat in my car to Jamie, who promptly slept through most of the event!
So when are you going to up the anti and do the BORC? lol!
-
Well done Mikee. Sounded like a fun day/night :(bigwicked): :(biggrin):

So when are you going to up the anti and do the BORC
at the mo i dont no as it looks like the front axle will also need rep[laced as it appears to have a bow in it now, will have to wait n see how things look when i get the racer in the garage
-
looks like the shocks are the least of my worries, just had a quick scan tonight & i have bent the chassis & cracked it just ahead of the bulkhead outrigger,& the axle is either bent or the swivels have moved,so at thye mo not a happy bunny

Weldone! even with all your probs and you managed to make it both times!! :D
-
Don't recall who it was but I saw someone who strengthens the axles by fitting another tube inside them! It sounds TBH as if your whole car was trying a bit too hard, I'd have to suggest you try slimming it down a little as well as reinforcing the bits that have bust. I spoke to a guy locally who id building a Tomcat and he's managed to get the weight below 1200kg. My Cavalier weighs that!
-
at the mo the racer has been put on the back burner as ive got to have my new 90 ready for tues but after then i might consider a tomcat but ill prob spec & scratch build it myself to my design, had a thought on how to mount the shocks etc & also how to save bout 50kg in weight, also regards to the weight my 90 weighs 1904kg in battle spec ie filled with fuel & no spares or spare wheel being carried so need to loose some beef

Defo needs to go on a bit of a diet! The Discovery weighs in at 1850 ready to do a Hillrally with a full tank of fuel! Still more to loose - have just lost a bit out of the seat mount that failed on the last stage of the hillrally.
The bow in the axle sounds familiar - as does the crack in the chassis. Sounds like you had fun though
