can anyone tell me the easy way to change my rear lamp unit from 300 to 200 with indicator and side light doubled up from bumper lights
thanks
-
I did this the other way round, the plug fitment in the light units were the same just had to rewire the back of the plug itself, try tracing where the wiring goes outside to the bumper and re direct it back to the main light unit, it must come off the main loom somewhere down the back end
All you have to do then is test the wiring and figure out which connection is which
-
If you unplug the lamps out of the bumper lights you can identify the cable colours needed which you should then be able to find in the main loom that runs down each rear quarter.
-
Why not use the reds on the bumper as rear fogs, you can then use the fogs on the new lights as a extra pair of side lights, or brake lights, depending on which bulbs you use

Wasn't the point of changing the lights something about them not being visible with the back door open, hence the rear lamp and indicators were moved to the bumper which are the ones you would use when stationary (with the back door open) - something to do with new rules.
If you change the bumper lights to fogs, would this fail it's MOT on some sort of type approval regulation?
Tim.
P.S. just bought off eblag some 200 lights to do this conversion myself - wish me luck!

As long as you have all the correct lighting items, the order does not matter, In the end I have indicators and fogs on the bumper, if I have the bumper under water then no power will be going through there unless I switch it on.
Tail, brake and indicators along with reverse lighting all run through the main clusters, along with a second tail light as well

Mine simply exchanged as the required services were already at the plug (Check with a Multi-meter)
All I had to do was remove old, unplug & replace with new.
If it's a 7-seater, it's far easier to remove the seats (TORX 30, or possibly, 35)
And it you tow, you'll need a replacement indicator relay, in order to cope with the extra demand & flash at the correct rate.
This will also activate the trailer tell-tale on the dash to indicate (pun intended) that the trailers indicators are functioning as legally required
AMR 4873 is the relay in question for a 30Tdi with 4 rear indicators (well, it was for mine)
It's dear!, about £25.00

i all ready have towing gear and the higher rating flasher unit
but at the plug for the light unit there are connections missing from the plug
ie the indicator and tail light connections

Mine were like that, I ended up putting some small crimp lugs on the ends of the extra cables I needed and giving them a helping hand to go in the multiway connector
Where abouts in Brum are you, seeing as I have done this mod once already  also off work this week
