Mad arent they, them little flip phones are so flimsy, wouldn't last me 2 minutes.  I've got a water and shock proof jobby that has lasted ages and can't see any new phones that can match it.

I know what you mean.  We both have quite a jazzy 3 handset, they were free when we joined.  Julie hasn't even set up the mailbox on hers.  I tried the internet thingy, once.  Basically once I'd used up the free ringtone downloads all I do is make calls and text.  For that I love it as it has a full QWERTY keyboard, I really hate that stupid abreviated c**p most people send, my spelling's bad enough as it is.  I don't think the camera is up to much, once you get the photos on the PC they look, well c**p to be honest.  Can't beat a good 35mm.

SWTSMBO has a Phillips C12.

It does the job. It's a phone. Nothing else. She's hoping the retro ringtones come back into fashion so that people don't look down their noses when it rings.

I have had my mobile for so long that they don't make them anymore and I can't get parts for it. :x

I have a contract with Orange who told me that I could upgrade to a new phone for free but they could not replace or fix my current phone.

I have a car kit fitted in the Freelander which put me back over £300 3 years ago so am not going to change phone when it will not be compatible with kit.

However, one day whe it really dies I suppose I will have to upgrade

What phone have you got?

Many of the 'newer' phones fit in older car kits.

If you know what it is I'll see if I can find a newer phone to fit

Tim.

If you're interested give me a shout james@landrover-110.co.uk please :)

Back on topic, i have several contract upgrades ^^^ but i still use my old Nokia 6310 cos it fits the handsfree and is virtually unbreakable.

It's a Nokia 8210 and the car kit is one of those where the phone slots into the charger then there is a microphone in top right corner of windscreen and the speaker is in the footwell passenger side.

Thanks :D

SWMBO had a NEC e616, it was bl**dy awful.
Back for repair 3 times in a year, replaced once.
Abysmal battery life, as it has somany functions to keep alive (even if not used)
Apalling network coverage ('3')

The only good point was the contract cost; 750minutes for, I think, £30.00

Now she has a (works provided)Nokia 3100 on 'O2', with a fully fitted car-kit.
It's a nice little phone, with a sensible directory feature. You enter a contact name & can list; mobile, home, office, other & work(?)

I have a Sony Ericsson K700i which dose the job and is nice and easy to use, although never use it for half the stuff it can do.

My works phone is a Benefon TrackPro. We also have a Thuraya Hughes 7101, house brick, sat phone for development work and script testing, phone calls run at £3.50 a min   .

Still trying to convince the boss that we need a Benefon Esc! For the office (my landy  ) http://benefon.com/products/esc/

Mary, you might want to check ebay. They have used phones for sale there and could pick one up cheap?

It's a Nokia 8210

My wife had one of those (only just given it away - typical!), and it had an odd set of 'ports' on the bottom (i.e. the connectors to fit the car kit) probably something to do with it having a radio built in, off hand I can't think of anything newer that is the same.

I would suggest as ProjectBlue suggested that you try eblag for another 8210.

Or if you look in the yellow pages and find a carphone warehouse fitting place (not a very good description but hopefully you can see what I mean) they should be able to mate up there range of phones to your current kit - use a fitting centre rather than a shop as you can drive your car right in.

Tim.

it depends on the type of fitment for you phone the kit has,the older nokia  phones had two pins the later ones have a 13 bar fixing,if you upgade and your phone has the newer fittings you can change the mounting in the car without replacing the whole kit

If you need to change phones you change parts or your Nokia car kit.
The control box and cradle are changable and there's loads on Ebay.
Just so you know when things go wrong

I keep considering a new phone, but as the 3310 works perfectly well is there any need?

I'd like a plain phone - no fancy gadgets.
If I could get one, something like a Nokia 5210, but with Polyphonics, Blue-Tooth, colour screen (not really important)
Oh & waterproof/shockproof

I know there's the 5140, but it's still got too many gadgets
