About to back off the drive this morning when the father in law pops up next to me, push button, whirrrrr window goes down, quick chat, pull away and carry on to the station. Park up, push button and whirrrr, crunch, click, crunch. Bloody windows gets about 4/5 the way up and stops.....
......Argh, more bloody money to spend! Just spent £150 on a new bloody exhaust.
So any ideas what has happened to me drivers window?? Wondering if I need to replace the motor and/or the window raising doberrywhasname....

That I think will be the "Window Lift Regulator", I've seen theseregularly on Eblag, it seems to be a scissor like bit of rubbish that does something technical that I don't understand.

Eblag seems to list a motor here for a 200TDi for £9.99 (at the moment), so you might be lucky, it may not be expensive (just a pain in the backside)

Before you go replacing the motor, does the window go back down again?
I only ask because I had a similar problem with my drivers window and it was the channel on the mechanisum that the glass sits in. The inside of the channel had corroded and bubbled out, catching on the inside of the door frame as the window was raised.
It was sorted by removing the rust and crimping the channel back into a normal position.
Check it by removing the door card and plastic door cover, drop he window to where you can see the bottom of the glass and, if this is the problem, then you should see the corrosion. :wink:

Just spent £150 on a new bloody exhaust.
Did you buy a Stainless Steel system then, got a new one for my Disco last year for about £60.
Mind you, dunno what motor you are running. :oops:

Frankie Boy, I've got a 200Tdi, L Reg. Replaced the back box and middle section. Don't think it's stainless!! :x

I got the same bits as you, middle and back sections, including all clips, brackets and hangers, mines a 300tdi but i dont know what the differences are, if any.
Still seems a lot to pay though.

The clunk does make it sounds like it could be the channel that holds the glass that is catching. I had the same as Budgie. A few minutes with the dremel and it sorted it. I put it down to people slamming the door with stuff stuck in between the seat and the door which distots the door panel.
I thought it easier to grind a bit off the channel than go trying to force the frame back.

It doesn't sound like the motor but if it is don't jump at a new one. Mine packed up but I sorted it by taking the motor off and cleaning the inside with loads of solvent cleaner. It's a pain putting it back but saves a good few quid.

Well I've taken it apart and found the problem.....
.....the channel that holds the glass was in TWO parts!!! It had rusted through. Cleaned it out, closed the window in place and now hunt for a new channel.
Thankfully I hadn't ordered a new part!! :lol:

Good news then Sulley, don't forget the rubber seal that fits between the channel & the glass. Plenty of washing up liquid when you put it together!! :wink:
