Title: Lights of my life........
Post by: Fireyred on September 09, 2005, 20:02:47
Can any bright spark help me and big rich to work out a little problem with the lights on Roo.

The side lights work, when you turn the switch again for main lights nothing and nothing for main beam,.........so no head lights and no main beam. yet when you pull the arm to flash they work.

Have checked light bulbs and they seem fine and also the circuit is fine.
The fuse's has not blown either??????

Try the relay..

Failing that there may be a simple fault with the switch on the stalk.

No relays on this one!

Most likely problem is the switch stalk has burnt itself out - fairly common as the feed to the lights goes directly through the stalk rather than a relay.

Metro or Maestro stalk is the same as the one in the Discovery

Mine played up when I fitted new headlights and bulbs.  Found it was the connection not being fully in place.  Gave them a shove and they are fine now.

HTH.

mine was the same.......i tried new bulbs ect ect ect. i had an mot the next morning too.......... ...could get side lights and flash but nothing else. it turned out to be the same as sully. when i removed the fuse box cover it seemed to pull on the wires leading to the offending stalk. i gave them a nice push back into place and found that all my lights were working again. give it a try. never know it may be just that simple

That sounds like a new light stalk is needed.
I had exact same problems prior to M.O.T.
It's a common problem on Discos'

My old rrc, light stalk completely broke up, was too much hassle trying to source another one that might go the same weay, just wired a series 3 light switch in and mounted it in the bottom steering cowling, still running  ok

I've had the same thing happen on two 200tdi's, looking at the posts it's quite common.

Both times it's just a case of solder teh wire on the back, it takes longer to take the cowl on and off than it does to repair.

By the way, don't mess about, once the cowl is off the stalk is easy to unplug, take it indoors to solder it.

Thanks everyone.

I took the covers off and had a look. Luck was on our side a wire had un soldered (If that's the correct word?) itself. A dab of silver solder and jobs a good un.

Now to find time to fit the rest of the stuff in the front door.

Thanks again.
