Title: Discovery Bumber End Caps
Post by: Disco Bristol on September 11, 2005, 16:01:37
Can you buy end caps for the standard Disco bumper? I removed the skirt to improve the approach angle but I want to over up the rather ugly corners.

Ooh wow, something technical I can help with! you need to buy the complete end caps (or use the ones that you took off) then cut with a jigsaw and a suitable blade (fine toothed aluminium) on the contour line at the bottom of the end cap.

As far as i know, you cant buy them ready cut, we bought a new pair (as the removal got a bit forceful)

Hi, thanks for that, I was rather hoping I could buy some ready made rather than damage the ones I took off as I may want to put them back on again at a later date i.e. if I sell the Disco.

Just out of interest does anyone know if it is legal to drive it without the bumper caps?

Just found a pic of the original end cap and I added the cut line.

We ran with ours off for a month or so, I believe that it will not pass the MOT with them missing, something to do with damage to pedestrians or something, like a 2 and a half ton Land Rover with plastic bits on will harm someone less than one without  :?

I removed the endcaps and valence still bolted together, then cut along the line defined by the valence using a stanley knife.  The plastic is pretty soft and the sharp blade leaves a really thin smooth cut.  I now have a cut down endcaps on the car, and a valence complete with endcap bottoms bolted to it sat in the attic in case I need to refit everything one day.
