So all those plonkers that panic bought 100 litres of fuel this week must of been pig sick to see Asda, Tesco and Esso slash the price by 4p a ltre today.
So come on..... who filled up in the week just in case.....
Who was an idiot......
I did

i dont feel stupid (what ever grumpy and sneezey say)
as for the price drop its only a start :)
what about the 3/4 of the price that is tax 2nd highest in europe i believe :(

It's a very smart move by the marketing people at the supermarkets... they absorb the cost increase in the fuel, take a loss-leader to get people to their premises and get to look like complete heroes at the same time....
The smaller organisations won't be able to compete, so depending on how long they plan to buy market share there is a real possibility of putting a good chunk of them out of business at the same time.

seems like esso is following the supermarkets now

That was happening well before the fuel problems and this will make it worse. Did you know that there are 25% LESS forecourts than this time 5 years ago? With cars going up in numbers it is a worry that the supermarkets may almost have a monoploy on it :(
-
Yep... this could well be the start of the 'price war' that silly chain letter was trying to start a while ago... as I say, it depends on how determined they are to keep their share / gain share.. Morrisons were talking about anything up to 11p / litre reduction... so the gloves are well and truly off... like I say.. a smart marketing move because they get nothing but good press for it.
-
Could not agree more. With costs as high as they are, even a whisper of a price slash gets them in the national papers and even has an effect on the supermarket share value.
We could be in for some interesting petrol prices!
Did you see in the news BP offered FREE petrol at one of its forecourts? Only 74 cars got it (most a full tank mind you) and it gets in every national paper! Talk about cheap advertising! But how very effective!

Didnt fill up always let tank go to red - live life on the edge- thats me

Same here, I don't feel stupid, just gutted that I paid at the higher rate.
-
The amount of money you saved on one tank full is not much, but please feel stupid if you waited in the queues to get fuel and wasted more money  .

Haven't done that yet but they've matched the rest around Nottingham.

A) Make sure the Discovery has fuel ready for the Driftwood/Turtle
Leicestershire laning extravaganza

Does that make me stooopid :?: :?: :?:

I was a bit surprised to see our local main petrol stations as normal on Tuesday evening. Went into Norwich and Tescos was heaving. Even had people out directing the traffic!!
The funny one was the queue of 4 cars at the one pump in the village station........ total gridlock  Can't remember seeing more than one at a time before!
Haven't used the 110 all week and the Freebie had most of a tank from last weekend anyway. That will need filling tonight.
-
nope im afraid i dont feel stupid at all, qued for about ten mins for fuel filled right up to the brim just in case but i was in the red any way and the high prices would be nothing compared to not being able to work if it hadf all gone ahead as expected. self employed and days off dont mix :) :!:
-
I did'nt need to fill at all
:D

I thought it was you normally left it for Chris to do so he pays!!!
(least that's what he told me)
Now then time to leave the country 'til the shouting finishes

Living in a rural area I always make sure that I *never* go below 1/4 of a tank. This is for peace of mind in case I have to do the 30+ one way miles to hospital if anything happened to a member of the family (on some nights there is only *one* ambulance to cover an area of roughly 70 square miles). To be honest I start to get uneasy once I get below 1/2 a tank.

I Heard a rumour somewhere that Mr Branson is thinking about!
Wait for it!!
VIRGIN OIL!!
Mainly for his own Aircraft and his other companies! But you never know what's going through that Billionairs Grey Matter?
-
I hope morrisons do drop it by that much as there are 2 i could vivit on the way to work. I filled mine to the brim! My bike that is which delivers about 65 to the gallon even when im hammering it(drz400) So i chose not to queue, 1 garage had unleaded at 92.9 but the wait would have been ages the opposite was 95.9 with no queue...not much of a contest cost me about 10 pence more to fill up. I will have to buy a non brand packet of crisps to make up for it!
Lets hope there is a real price war....remember the lower the price we pay the less that prat Brown gets!
-
I filled the SJ up as it was low and I was in town anyway. Cost me £26. Forecourt was full and 3 pumps out of 5 locked. Had a 10 minute wait. What got me was the people topping up their tanks. £5, £10 and one woman in an old style mini, (a real mini), £3.50.

Went past a second Morrisons last night about 5 miles from the first one and was quite surprised to see there petrol prices hadn't dropped.
-
No sign of a reduction in prices around here, and I need to fill up for a 600 mile trip tomorrow ...
-
I splashed circa £65.00 into it on Tuesday morning on my way to work, but it was just the usual fortnightly/3-weekly fill-up.
SWMBO said she queued as she was Leicester bound on Wednesday morning for a couple of big meetings
The local one ran out of unleaded on Tuesday PM, another was limiting to £15.00 & over to avoid the silly sods taking £2.50 to 'brim it'
On my way to work there's a JET & that had a sign out saying 'Diesel For Emergency Service Vehicles Only'
-
returning to normal round here, local garage no major wait 90.9 p or 93 for weasel
-
90.9 or 93! sheeesh! 95.9 and 99.9 up here. Well it was Wednesday. :(
-
hee hee, due to electrical and organisational problems (mislaid docs, couldn't get tax :( ) I'm actually still running on the tankfull I put in before the protest-that-never-was; can anyone else claim this kind of fuel economy?
-
Last time I filled up the series 3 was sometime in April, so there was enough for the MoT.
Not been driven much since :( Been up for sale for ages, but no one's interested. eBay by the weekend - with historic fuel!!!!
Cheers
Ben

The day before the aledged strike our local radio station did an offer for about an hour where they paid the fuel difference so you got it at the price 5 years ago, everyone was queing down the road.
-
Well the price drop didn't last long up here.
When we got back from Belgium it had dropped from £1.07 down to £1.04. Last week diesel went back up to £1.07 and unleaded stayed at £1.04.
-
budgie,im gonna send you a PM cos ive found a better way & its better for te environment
-
Unleaded is back down to 91.8 down here now
