Title: Putting different width wheels on my truck
Post by: Jim-Willy on September 18, 2005, 21:27:06
Hi, i have a slow puncture on my offside front tyre and was thinking of shoving my 2nd spare on for now but my wheels are rostyles which are 6.5" width whereas the 2nd spare is a 5.5" standard rim.  Will it make any difference as a temporary measure?

To get you home type usage, and down to the garage to fix the main one should be ok.

At one time it was a no no, but now

You see all these nice new cars with these little spare wheels and they can do it.

As long as the tyres have the same rolling circumference then you'll not have a mechanical problem with the diffs etc. But should keep it down speedwise.
As Kev mentioned it's only like one of these space saver wheels. Although they shouldn't go above x mph but I've seen them at motorway speeds and they wonder why the rear overtakes the front when they slam on the brakes. :(

so long as the tyres are the same sixe then no worries urgently.

i ran our 110 with 3x 8spokes (7inch) and 1x 110 rim(5.5 inch) for about 1 month.

all had 235/85 tyres though.

As long as the tyres are the same width, no problems. The width of the rim will only mis-shape a tyre that is too wide for it so despite the rims being different widths the tyre touching the ground is the same.
If you shoe horned a tyre that is too wide for the rim on you would soon know about it.
