Title: Piglet
Post by: Thrasher on September 23, 2005, 10:19:34
Ho hum ... it looks suspiciously like I might be leaning to the decision of selling my pride and joy .... the Discovery.

Trouble is ... I have no idea how to value him :( I have owned him for 7 years.

So...er....two things - one is a poll, and the other is....

How much should I part with him for?

Pic of him here :

I've voted for the (nearly) unanimous NO.

Piglet is an icon, and should remain with you.

IF you really have to sell, then you need to be careful who you sell too. Ideally it would be another Mud-Clubber who could keep up the traditions - if not I think they have some rules about national treasures being sold to foreigners...... Be carefull!

If you don't watch out there will soon be a leaflet campaign for you to keep piglet, then we'll have posters, stickers, t-shirts - the list is endless, please put a stop to this madness now by PROMISSING NOT TO SELL!

Why do have to sell Piglet?  :?
Title: Piglet
Post by: Mace on September 23, 2005, 13:33:52
Flog it !  All those Piglet tears of rejection are gonna make him rusty ;-) There's no point in keeping him if he's not going to be used for the purpose for which he was created. You know it makes sense to send him to a new home where his springs will bounce again, air will flow through his snorkel and he'll feel very satisfied that he's once again, top dog and not playing understudy to a big brother.

Damn, forgot to vote.......WHAT only 17% vote to sell ?  Are you all mad ?

I'll stick me neck out and state....standard motor £3500K plus all the add ons must have cost £3500 + ......therefore current value £4500-£5000 and you'll sell it.  Ask Paul how much he paid for his motor with £10k's worth of receipts, he might be better to advise.

I've only just realised this is the MUD club, I joined thinking it was the MAD club.

But there is still not enough insanity I my veins to see suggestion of the PIG being LET go.

It's only money Neil :-) Work out the depreciation on OWL in 3 years time and £5k will seem like a snip.

The trouble is Neil, you never get back the amount you spend :(  Stuff like "new engine" are good plus points, but...

If it was up for £5K ... I'd be interested ... and then probably divorced

Ooops, hope I havent offended you there, it wasn't intentional.

I just don't want to see Piglet depart, if he goes to another Mud-clubber then I think that would be OK, he wouldn't be leaving 'us', only moving around a little and spreading the joy.
Title: Piglet
Post by: jnoshea on September 23, 2005, 14:34:05
I voted 'Yes' Neil as I'm guessing you don't need Piglet anymore. To be honest if I had owl and piglet, I'd be tempted to sell too.
Title: Piglet
Post by: xmob on September 23, 2005, 14:57:40
There is another option:

Don't sell Piglet, just put him under the care of somebody who makes sure he gets the attention he deserves.  I know someone who will make sure he'll get his feet covered in Yorkshire mud every weekend.   :D  :D  :D

Hmmm, you might have a point there, maybe he could be rented out to approved individuals - keeping him in the family but providing the extra income needed....

Funny
I was going to talk to you about this Niel
I had a feeling this was coming
I read something you wrote mentioning you bought the disco because it was nice then it just started to happen.
now you have Owl and you've started doing bits to it i thought it was only a matter of time.
As for a value, not a clue mate.
worth what someone will pay i guess?
Shame but progress is progress.
(i voted yes)

Post by: seph234 on September 23, 2005, 18:38:03
yes im totally wrong with prices whatcar say that a 1997 es is worth 5k private and 6k dealer and thats for a standard es model so with a spec like yours its got to be 8k upwards :D

I can't see why you would want to sell, you'll never get what you think its worth with the time it takes and money it costs to build a truck like that.

You won't play hard in the Rangey will you?  Not like you do in that Piggy Beast!
Title: Piglet
Post by: davidlandy on September 23, 2005, 19:54:50
Being realistic I think that Piglet should be sold

Seeing it sitting there on your drive the other day getting covered in rust is not good - it needs a new home.

On the value front its gotta be worth around £5-6k, its got some good bits on it, but all said and done underneath those stickers its still a 97 disco, and a petrol one at that.......best you get some money for it whilst its still worth something.

  Do the decent thing and put it on Ebay

If it was a diesle & my duaghter had not just bought her first house (daddy's bank takes a real bashing now), i think i would be the next proud owner,
good luck to who ever buy's it there's a lot of truck there,

John.

The best way to recoop some cash from the sale is to sell what can be removed and then sell it as a 4.6 standard disco with roll cage and snorkel.
That way you get back loads of small moneys from all the bits and then a lump sum for the car.
Thats what i'd do.
 :)
