Title: Engine temp low
Post by: driftwood on September 24, 2005, 09:12:58
my temp guage on the disco used to read on the first quarter above cold, notice now it only sits well just over the cold, well literary on it.

is this normal?, the heater gets worm but not hot, and would this have any bearing on feul consumption with the choke not turning off, or am i being dim lately?

regards

I would say it's most likely that your thermostat needs replacing, looks like it might have failed in the open position allowing coolant to pass swiftly and not giving the engine a chance to get warmed up.

I don't know what you mean about the choke being on, diesels don't have a choke unless you are standing near the exhaust pipe.

If you take it out when its cold, look and check if it is open or closed, if closed drop in a pan of boiling water and check to see if it opens.

It will more than likely be open when its cold, if thats the case just replace it.

To be honest, for the cost involved I generally replace mine each year anyway.
