Title: Disco II - plastic diff filler plugs
Post by: thermidorthelobster on September 24, 2005, 10:47:08
Trying to remove an over-tightened plastic diff filler plug at the side of the road in Scotland when emulsion started spraying out of my axle breather had me cursing at whatever cretin Land Rover engineer specified a plastic plug.  Got the bloody thing out in the end, but only with about a dozen different tools.

Is there a metal alternative I could use instead?  I think the thread size is different than "normal" metal filler plugs.

Dave,
The only thing I can suggest is the P38 filler/drain plug (metal, with a 1/2" square drive), as these use very similar axles. According to Microcat, the part number is 608246.

P.S., like the comment in your siggy, ref Saab 9-5 - my folks have just bought one, and it's 4" longer than my Disco!!!
