Sorry, have the same post in a different section but thought I would get a better response here.
Going to look at this next Tuesday for a possible swap for my Pajero.

Will be giving it a test drive on and off road. Can anyone give me the good and the bad to look out for. It's relisted as it didn't meet it's reserve last time at £2400.
Any help would be great
Thanks,
Leigh

take a real good look at the chassis , and dont be afraid to give it a real good poke.
-
Will do thanks. One thing I'm not sure about is whether I should avoid it because its petrol and not diesel. Any advice on this?
Cheers,
Leigh
-
didnt notice that
you really want a diesel
-
That'll use nearly as much petrol as a V8, only without the fun factor. I wouldn't want a petrol Landy as an everyday car.
-
Hi Leigh,
At that sort of money you should be looking at a 200tdi, or at least a toubo diesel, in decent nik

Looks like I'll have to sell on that auction site then. Just a little worried I wont get what its worth :?
Cheers for your replies

You can always set a reserve price or just sell local.
-
Certainly wouldn't put it on without a reserve!

What would it take to change the engine to a deisel apart from the obvious deisel engine. Would it need a new fuel tank and anything else?
-
You need to be careful, its ancient, my uncle just got rid of a well loved D reg 90 it looked ok till you lifted the bonnet and saw the bulkhead was knackered.
-
All this advice has certainly made my mind up. A little dissapointed as it looks great on the surface and by his description.
Oh well, keep on looking
-
I'm not trying to put you off but a petrol 90 that age isn't worth much no matter how many pretty bits are bolted onto it. Really if you can afford it you want a TDI, ignore the roll bars and fancy bumpers and get a nice one and modify it as you want.
(My opinion only)
-
looks like we got quite a good deal with ours then cos it is a 1985 '90 with a great bulkhead, rear crossmember replaced 2 yrs ago and no issues with the engine so far, about 85k miles
-
Thanks, its opinions of people that know more about 90's the myself i need. And believe me I don't know much other than I would like one
Thanks for your advice
Cheers,
Leigh

theres a L plate 90 tdi hardtop coming up forsale up my way if you are interested

I was originally going to swap my Pajero for the 90. I have received a pm about a Disco so I'll find out more about that first. Failing that I will need to sell the Pajero first. For me its either a swap or sell to buy.
But cheers anyway

Looks like that 90 2.5 petrol is advertised in Land Rover Monthly for a whopping £3500

Its probably a minter or he wouldn't dare ask that (its old enough to have a hole through the middle).
-
I'm going to stay clear of it just in case
I looked at a K reg Disco tdi (1992) at the weekend and later this week I'll be looking at a Disco 300 P reg (1997) in a couple of days time. Must admit though its a V8. I know its going to be thirsty but hey, its a V8

V8, mmm lovely. I used to own a gas guzzling Jeep and i loved it but it got as it was limiting how far afield i travelled and i didn't like that. 14miles to a gallon is a bummer when you want to go to a show or summat. My Dad has a Disco and it is his second and as long as you know what to look for (slack in tranny, rot just about everywhere....) they are great, really comfy and loads of room.
-
I'll make sure I take a good look at it first.
Slack in tranny?
Cheers

Yes the LT77 gearbox as fitted to the 200 series disco is rubbish and by now a lot of them have extreme backlash. Make sure you have a test drive with you driving so you can check. The r380 as fitted to the 300 series is better but still be wary. The ZF auto box is very good.
