The drivers door and nearside rear door have both started playing up - when I unlock using the alarm fob, the lock/catch/thingy doesn't come fully up and the door won't open.
I seem to remember this being a common problem, but I can't remember the solution

Door lock springs (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-TDI-V8-DOOR-LOCK-REPAIR-SPRINGS_W0QQitemZ4577673202QQcategoryZ31348QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) or the central locking actuator.
I'd go for the later.

Why would you say it's the latter?

Cos the same happended to the Rangie and it was either weak or duff actuators. Ended up replacing most of them in the end.
The springs are cheaper but I don't know what they are like to fit as I've never done them.
There may be other reasons that I've not come across so maybe wait till others have had their input.

well i would say the former :D my brother had exactly that fault gordon and replaced the lock springs and fixed it, bearing in mind he,s not that mechanically inclined it cant have been that difficult

http://www.wizardbilt.com/page6.htm has some fitting details for the door springs - one of mine has started playing up but I just haven't got around to sorting it yet. Cheers.

Gords ended up changing all my springs , mine was doing the same as yours , loads of them for sale on ebay but they are a git to change , you are looking about 2 to 3 hours a door , all the window frame has to come up out of the way to get the lock out to change the spring , did not help when the springs got mixed up .
simon if you need more info give us a pm

I'm on 4 days off from tomorrow morning so you bring her up and I'll see what I can do!! :(biggrin):

If it's the actuator, get the one from Maplins which is about 7 quid, instead of the 40 quid one from Land Rover - if you're stuck, pm me, and I'll dig out the part number. About 15 minutes to fit. Get some spare plastic rivet things as well because you'll bust some when you take the door liner off.

£5 each!!!
Check my sig. No eBay account? Email or PM me.

Is this the same for both the Disco 1 and 2?
My 2 has the same problem on the drivers door.

No the Disco 2 Doesnt use the springs so it will be a lazy solanoid, unfortunatly they are built into the lock, i have stripped quite a few and theres not a lot you can do with them once there gone, i have cleaned them with contact cleaner and wd40 and you can get a slight improvement but its only short term. Replace it and save yourself the hassel

disco 2 door latch ebay £45 make sure you search for latch not lock
