Title: Contrasting Land Rovers
Post by: thermidorthelobster on September 30, 2005, 17:26:16
I've just had a run round in the 101 - 4.25 tonnes, V8, manual steering, 20' long, 7' wide - and got out and straight into a Supercharged 4.2 Range Rover Sport.  I can't think of two more diverse Land Rover products out there!

The Sport was quite impressive - it really does shift.  Put your foot down and you start to appreciate the headrests.  Nice bit of kit.  Don't think I'd buy one though.

Just thinking:

101:  4.25 tonnes, 165bhp, 38bhp/tonne
RRS:  2.4 tonnes, 390bhp, 164bhp/tonne

So pound for pound, it's 4.3 times as powerful.

No wonder it's quite nippy then.

I've always fancied doing something with a 101 to give it real serious power. Given those figures you'd need a serious engine.

Well, a 4.2 supercharged Jag engine would be a good start.  Hate to see the economy though.

To be fair, a "normal" 101 will go pretty well with a 4.6v8.  I know a couple...

Then you have to upgrade the handling.
